Tom's Story
My wife Sheree, son Sean and I have been living the dream here in White River Junction, Vermont, since 1986. As anyone who has lived in a certain place as long as we have here, can understand, you tend to get pretty settled. It won't ever be quite the same as folks who've lived here their whole lives, but we certainly do have that strong sense of place, that you hear about. We do love Vermont.
We have neighbors across the street who lived in NYC, Manhattan, before moving to White River Junction. They had very exciting lives in the city, very stimulating and of course are really into the arts and culture. But in the end they valued small town life more and every time we hear a story like theirs, which is often, it makes us feel alittle better about where we live.
For anyone interested in geography, our location here in WRJct. is known as the "Upper Valley". The local newspaper is called the Valley News. The Hub of the Upper Valley are the three towns, White River Junction, Lebanon, NH and Hanover,NH (home to Dartmouth College).
I do often think about my former life in Oneida and the people I knew there including many of you reading this. Whenever I hear people around here talk about seeing so and so who was a classmate ...Expand for more
of theirs that they played football with back in 1972, I imagine what that's like. Everyone I know around here is someone I've only come to know since living here and although twenty plus years is a pretty long stay in one place, these days, and you can make alot of friends in that period of time, it's still different then being in one place since day one.
We have a pretty conventional life, I'd say, here in WRJct.,VT, I work at the local VA Hospital in the Warehouse, my wife works for Dartmouth College and my kid, Sean, 15, is a pretty average teenage boy; does alright in school, has developed a strong interest in the opposite sex, gives his parents the usual amount of heartache you expect from a teenager. I will toot my horn alittle, however when it comes to my sons prowess in sports. I would say in that department he excells. He holds the record in the mile run for the Hartford, VT. Middle School. He runs x country, plays BB and Lacrosse and he does really well in all three.
You know what, I'm getting alittle tired of writing and I'm thinking you maybe getting alittle tired of reading. Plus my kid is harrassing me about being on the computer so long so I think I shall end this little spiel for now, anyway.
