Tom McKernan:

CLASS OF 1977
Northbrook, IL

Tom's Story

Retired in 2016 as a Director of Engineering at a semiconductor company. I attended Cal Poly San Luis Obispo for my BSEE, and later obtained a MSEE at USC and MBA from Chapman University while working in Aerospace. After meeting my wife Judy, we moved to Fort Collins Colorado in 1993. I kept running throughout the years, including some college track and cross country and a short stint playing college soccer. With regards to HS, my family just moved to Northbrook from CA one week prior to the start of classes. I have fond memories of the people I got know and of the many experiences. Highlights included getting my first varsity letter sophomore year, and being elected captain of both the cross country and track teams my senior year, while earning fiv...Expand for more
e letters in the meantime. My racing off season during this time was significantly more successful where I achieved national rankings. I was too shy for my own good, and as a result felt like an outsider at times which was probably true of many people at that age, but still managed to have a lot of fun. During this time, I also worked at Turn-Style, McDonalds, and Athlete’s Foot my junior and senior years. With my family moving out of state to CA in 1978, I never made it back to Northbrook (accept for a couple reunions), where I regret losing touch with many friends. Too bad we didn’t have Facebook back then. Recently I have spent some time surfing the internet, sadly learning of classmates no longer with us, but happy to still have memories of them.
