Tom's Story
My friends call this Semi-retired.
I completed 20 years working for one company after teaching, administering a private school we started and starting a family. Caring for my granddaughter could be my 5th career.
Yes, I travelled again. Soon after college, I got married. After a few years teaching grades from high school to preschool, I trained in Italy as a Montessori elementary teacher. That summer of 72,I took my wife Helen to visit South Africa and friends there. 4 years in Florida later, and with our first child of three, we returned to CA and taught. We started a preschool in Oakland in 1978, which continues. After administration of a non-profit for 10 years, I worked commercially. Divorce happened...Expand for more
amicably in 1994. My work at an international shipping firm lasted 20 years. I worked in portside operations, seaman claims, accounting and fleet control until the HQ moved to Asia and Arizona.
I teach dancing in a Scandinavian folkdance performance group. We focus on Swedish and Norwegian dances. I also perform in Sweden and Norway at national events with my Norwegian lady friend Margot. See also NGLS.net for news, but I am not in the old pix.
Social dancing and music have enlivened many an event. Service in scouts, schools and CERT feel like community-building. Three upstanding children with partners are part of an extended and supportive family. God has blessed us, one and all, and in humor, we trust.
