Tom's Story
After HS attended SUNY Farmingdale, married Renee Tulipano (BHS '73) and we both headed off to West Lafayette, IN (Purdue University) We returned to Long Island in 1979 and after a couple of years of bartending at "The Fiddler" on Brentwood Rd and killing termites for Harder Tree Services, went to work on Wall Street for the next 20+ years trading equities. Actually majored in Entomology-go figure.
We currently live in West Islip, in what I hope is our last house, as long as the bank will have us, with our 23 year old son, Ryan and the greatest mother in law in the world Phyllis (felicia) Tulipano ( Everyone remembers Renee's mom, who with Grace Fata was the most popular hallway and cafeteria monitors in Ross when we were there. She's a doll)-and she didn't pay me nor am I going to inherit anything for that comment.
Renee works part-time at a Doctors office across from Good Samaritan Hospital (I call her a doctor but she really is a medical receptionist- but she wears whites and looks like a doctor-hey you gotta look the part to play ...Expand for more
the part)She also takes care of her mom who is now 88.
Ryan recently finished at IAR (Institute of Audio Research) in NY and works at Sears in BayShore while he plies his trade in the garage (he built a recording booth that he uses to create music-he's a pretty talented musician and I give the kid credit-at 23 he still has not given up on his dreams.)
In 1993, I bought and restored an old muscle car (1969 Chevelle SS) and what started out as a hobby has since turned into a fairly decent business. I left my Wall Street trading job in 2003 and now sell parts for old musclecars (Chevelles Camaros and Novas-at SS396dotcom) around the world.
Spent a month last year at home recovering from cancer surgery and got a little taste of retirement. Whoever said that you would be bored out of your skull or you wouldn't know what to do with yourself when you retire is a moron.
I pray every morning that the noise I hear coming out of the garage is that next hit record I've been waiting for all these years. Even at 53, sometimes I can still dream.
