Tom's Story
Just enjoying life these days. It's fun to look back at some of these names and photos and recall how every day seemed like such a big production! Who is talking to who ... what did they say ... what were they wearing ...? (And most likely with the lowlife desperadoes I hung with, "Who has the rolling papers?" etc.)
I think I made it through the first two weeks of 11th grade before I tuned in, turned on and dropped out. Then I decided to ~really~ disappoint my parents by leaving home at age 16 to play the piano, chase women and live the life of a half-baked rock and roller.
And that's exactly what I did for the next 10 or 12 years as a professional, full-time musician --...Expand for more
wine, women and song; sex, drugs and rock and roll -- while all the other smart kids I used to hang with in junior high had finished their degrees at Hopkins, West Point, Stanford, etc.
I finally smartened up (and sobered up) later in life and went to college at age 33. Now I'm just a boring science writer in College Park leading a quiet and reasonably happy life. :)
From smoking a joint with the guys in Aerosmith to sleeping with the girlfriend of the guitar player in Springsteen's band to writing about biomolecular labeling and high-throughput genomic sequencing ... what did Jerry Garcia use to say? Oh yeah ... What a Long Strange Trip It's Been ...
Enjoy everybody!
