Tom's Story

Life Living outside of Medical Lake, Washington. I'll retire from the military probably in 2007. My wife graduated with a degree in Special Education and now teaches at Anderson Elementry on Fairchild AFB. We've two children, Mason (mister football/baseball), who is 16 and is a Junior this year - he's already started football practices for the coming year. He has Spring baseball off due to breaking his foot while racing me to the Llama pen - actually he took a shortcut and jumped over the hammock. He's a member of the National Honor Society. He's looking into colleges now. Our Daughter Bethane is 13 and also gets outstanding grades - she plays varsity volleyball and is considering playing basketball this year too. My wife Sandra and I raise Llamas, ADGA Dairy Goats, chickens and turkeys. Not to mention 6 border collies. Why so many animals? It's a hobby my wife and I both enjoy. Besides, animals are wonderous creatures, they've nothing bad or negative to say about anyone, won't hurt you intentionally and only want attention - good hobby to have after a stressful day. We've some land and spend alot of time taking walks in the woods or riding ATV's in the surrounding hills. We spend alot of time gardening and are trying to get a small orchard up. I planted some alfalfa this year but not sure how well it'll come up, I keep checking it though and it's slowly breaking out of the dirt. We have alot of grape, blueberry and raspberry plants we've been putting in over the last few years - we hope they take off well this year. LIFE IS GOOD!!! Military I entered the Air Force in 1981...Expand for more
and from there it's gone by so fast. I began at Fairchild AFB as a Survival Instructor, but soon changed my career field to Flight Records so I could be near the flying more. I then went to Mt Home AFB, in Idaho and worked at a Fighter squadron and the Fighter Weapons School for F-111's - this is where I met my outstanding wife Sandra who is from Darby, Montana. We married in 1983. We spent several years in Mt Home, Idaho before being sent to Eielson AFB Alaska. We loved Alaska so much, we stayed 10 years and saw/experienced more than we ever imagined we would in our lifetime. I worked in a helicopter rescue squadron and still wonder at the scenery I was able to witness first hand. I also worked in reconnaissance and with an A-10 Fighter squadron while there. We had both our children born in Alaska also - amazing how snow does wonderous things. But after 10 years, snow gets quite old and we opted to drive to our home area (in the middle as Sandy is from Montana) to Fairchild AFB. We've been here since 1996 and bought a home three years ago and decided this is where I'll retire. Sandy Graduated with a degree in Special Education and it's time for her career now as she's followed me around all these years. I'm now in an Air Refueling Squadron and have spent a great deal of time away lately due to the current world situation. Many beautiful and awesome places in this world, but nothing like home - we're all so very lucky compared to how others live around the world. But I look forward to seeing new places from time to time but am always more anxious to get home where it's safe with my family.
