Tom's Story
Military
I joined the Army in late 1969, having been promised Mandarin at the Monterey Language Institute. I did go to Monterey for a year - to study Vietnamese, Hanoi dialect. Then the Army sent me over to use it. The rest is detail.

d to the lovely Carol , who had gotten her MA while I was Saving the World for Capitalism. She and I then went to Cornell in New York for the Ph.D programs in Architectural History (her) and Government (me).
We both had careers after that but they're not worth mentioning, now that we're both RETIRED!
