After graduation from Crown Point High School, I enlisted in the Army and served 4 years. I served in the Army Security Agency, a division of Military Intelligence, from 1966 to 1970. I was a Communications Security Analyst, 05G30, and held a top secret, cryptographic security clearance with authorization to special intelligence. I was an E-5 when discharged in February of 1970.

While at Ft. Bragg, I was attached to the 82nd Airborne Division and the 7th Special Forces Group.

co in 1990.
After leaving Whiteco I went to work in Municipal Government. I was the Director of Development for the Village of Channahon, IL until 2003. In February of 2003, I became the Village Administrator for the Village of Manhattan, IL. In October of 2006, after 2 heart surgeries and the election of a new mayor, I resigned as Administrator. I am now the Village's Building Commissioner, a position that I held part time from 1990 to 2003. I am a Certified Building Official, Certified Building Inspector and Certified Mechanical Inspector.
I am married to my wife Linda and have 3 sons.
On June 17, 2003, I lost my youngest son, Shawn. He was killed in action north of Baghdad, Iraq while serving with the 1st Armored Division. Shawn was the first combat fatality of the 1st AD.
His son and my first grandson, Dean Patrick, was born 3 days after Shawn shipped out. He never got to hold or see his baby.
