Tom's Story

Born in Bridgeport CT, family moved to Trumbull in 1950, then to Montreal, Quebec in 1955, and then back to CT to Fairfield in 1961. I moved away from Fairfield upon graduating from Bowdoin College (ME) in 1968. Having recently married Carolyn Jones from the Ludlowe Class of '65, I toiled in the trenches at General Electric for 17 years in various financial management roles with GE in locations that included Pittsfield MA, Mount Vernon IN, Syracuse NY, Bridgeport CT and Stamford CT ( the latter assignment a division CFO role with GE Capital). Along the way, son Trevor was born in 1970 and daughter Brooke was born in 1975.. Great kids who are now great adults with their own families, (Trevor has two boys) and Brooke has a daughter Mia, along with three older step-children who have all graduated from college) . Both Trevor and Brooke are college educated and holding their own . Trevor graduated from Colby with a BA in Philosophy in 1992 and lives with his family in Rocky Hill CT and is an IT consultant. Brooke, after a year at St Lawrence University (1994), eventually secured her BSc in Criminology from Westfield State College in MA. She lives with her family in Great Barrington MA, works full time in Stockbridge MA while completing her MSW degree. Having played college hockey all 4 years at Bowdoin, I continued my passion for hockey and played semi-pro for 7 years after college and then in more informal senior leagues. I also became a hockey referee shortly after college and refereed NCAA & ECAC hockey games as well as high school and prep school games for almost 20 years,, while also coaching youth hockey when living in Manlius NY and Newtown CT. In late 1984 I took an executive position with Mellon Bank at their corporate headquarters in Pittsburgh PA, living on a golf course about 45 minutes north of downtown Pittsburgh in Butler PA.. A major corporate downsizing in 1988 found me looking for work, and in January of 1989 I took on the job as CFO and Head of Operations and Administration at Kent School, an Episcopal-affiliated boarding school for boys and girls in grades 9-12 located on two campuses with 1800 acres of property bordering the Housatonic River in Kent CT (northwest corner of CT). Some 24 years later, I hung up my spurs and retired from Kent School in July of 2013. In early 1993 , Carolyn and I separated ....we officially divorced in 1995. .She immediately remarried, and I began dating a woman with whom I had had one fleeting but memorable date in the summer of 1966. Judy Bjorklund, recently divorced, was originally from Trumbull, and living with her 9 year old daughter Laura in Binghamton NY, working as the Ass't Athletic Dire...Expand for more
ctor at Binghamton University (SUNY). Judy and I had first met while working at YMCA Camp Hi-Rock, the Bridgeport Y camp located in Mt. Washington MA. On our 2nd date 29 years later, we clicked immediately and 7 months later, Judy & Laura moved from Binghamton to live with me, and in 1996, we were married, living until 2013 in Kent. Laura, as did Brooke, graduated from Kent School, and subsequently graduated from Hamilton College with a BA in Art and Art History in 2007, worked and lived in Berkeley CA for Habitat For Humanity (though some day we expect her to move to Italy, as she studied in Italy for a year and a half and is fluent in Italian.). Laura is now living in South Portland ME, having secured a MSW degree in 2017 and building on her experience and state licensing to be a private psychotherapist. In the meantime, she works as a social worker in a local school system and for a municipal agency dealing with children at risk. Laura gave birth to our newest grandchild Sam in August 2021, and Judy and I have been day care providers for Sam from Thanksgiving 2021 through June 2022. We all get a break with the summer school break. My interests include The Great Outdoors, Good Food and Wine, Fine Bourbon, Traveling. Ice Hockey, Downhill & X-Country Skiing, Golf and Water Skiing. . In 1998 Judy and I bought a vacation retreat outside of Schroon Lake in the Adirondacks. And then ten years later in 2008 we were fortunate to sell that log home and bought another wonderful lake property one hour deeper in the Adirondacks on 14 mile Long Lake.. We spend from late May to mid-September at the lake, and also pop in periodically over the winter. In May of 2013, upon retiring, we sold our home in Kent and purchased a home in the southern Berkshires in bucolic Tyringham MA, just 10 minutes from the Mass Pike and the Lee Outlets. In the fall of 2018, we decided to sell our place in Tyringham, and by Thanksgiving had purchased a home and relocated to Scarborough Maine, just 1/2 mile from the ocean near Higgins Beach. Wonder what the next adventure will bring . Actually, next adventure was to sell our Adirondack lake camp in July 2020 (7 hour drive too long) and bought a wonderful four season log home on a lake up near Moosehead Lake only about a 3 hour drive from home. Life is good. Somehow Classmates.Com has picked up that one of my favorite quotes is:"If you don't know where you're going, any old road will get you there".. Another is "if you come to a fork in the road, take it.". Good philosophies to have in life.. I'd love to hear the Reader's Digest version of the stories of my other classmates from MRHS '62, class of '64 Ludlowe or Bowdoin '68 classmates..

Buttermilk Falls, a good daily walk with the dogs near us in Long Lake
Saturday's celestial sunset from the Munjoy Hill condo of Bowdoin '68 fraternity brother Chip Newell and his wife Susan Morris while celebrating my 70th birthday (and Chip's 69th) with Judy Sides, Laura Browne and Sarah De
My beautiful bride and her new paddle board. She can do yoga on it and take the dogs on it because of the full board traction.
Woot woot. Hope she knows how to swim ! 👍❤️🏊
Maggie and Cooper three years ago........think they like each other much?
They make every day, not just Father's Day, a joy......except when they encounter a porcupine or take off after a deer for several hours.

22" - 25" of fresh powder at our house in Tyringham MA.....no snow drifts, as we had hardly any wind. Light and fluffy.....not the wet stuff that many had. Dogs are having a ball.
