Tommy's Story

When I was born I was very young. I grew up in West Nashville. I remember my first Day of School at Bordeaux Elementary school. I cried all day because I wanted my mother. It was an extension if my Separation Anxiety. That December, we moved to West Nashville. It was 44th avenue between Colorado and Nebraska.I started Sylvan Park Elementary. i was introduced to the gang I would go through until I graduated from Cohn. Everybody knows about those years. What they probably don't know, few did, I was appointed to the Coast Guard Academy at New London CT. I had originally applied to the Military Academy at West Point.Because Se. Gore Sr. had prior obligations he made me the Coast Guard offer. Thanks to Kathy Croft, who had tutored me in math I made an extremely high score in the entrance test.I will always be grateful to her for her help. I went to Memphis State instead.I had turned down the offer from Sen. Gore.I was so dumb.I completed my college career over the next twenty years which included a career in the Nashville Police dept. I saw allot experienced a lot and had experiences all over the country from Calf. to Chicago, to Miami, to Tucson AZ to a little town in Oregon called Grant's Pass. During this time I was severely injured and had to have 2 back operations which eventually lead to my getting a disability pension from Metro.I went back to School fi...Expand for more
nished my BS. I figured I had nothing else to do and applied for the Masters program and 1 year and 1/2 later I graduated with a Master degree. Well, I thought if I am going this far I should get my PHD.So over the next 10 years I proceeded to accomplish my Doctorate in Psychology. Thanks in a large part to Dr. Trotter who smooth out the bumps. After graduation, I taught some classes at Notre Dame University in South bend, In. during 08. I left when my friend who was the chair for the Law dept. Retired and became the chair Emerist for the law school. Left and began working for the Correctional dept of IN. This fall I have been asked to teach some Psych classes at Purdue University.I still have not made up my mind if i will. But just as soon as I arrived home, I broke my ankle,( I fought the ice and the ice won. I will probably teach at Purdue this fall. I did attend the football reunion in December at Cohn. I saw some good friends I haven't seen in 40 years. Some were every friendly others were not. Why they were not I can only speculate. Whether you consider by verisimilitude is up to you. Oh, I forgot, I spent a lot of time with the Chicago Police dept.'s Narcotics and Organizied crime unit. I learne3d to drink heavy and still function. My legacy, I hope will be he turned out all right for an immature, poor social skilled, kid who was scared of women. lol
