Tommy's Story

Life - What a life... I got married in 1994, have 3 beautiful kids 11yrs, 10yrs, and 9yrs. Moved to North Carolia about 8 years ago and love it out here!! I still feel like AZ is my home and I'm just visting out here. I am not sure if I will ever go back to the Valley. Maybe back to the mountains. I tell ya, once you go green (as in not dry desert) and smaller town, you'll never want to go back. School Biggest Crush: I had the biggest crush on (do we have room to list them all....) but of course I was too shy (bummer) to admit it at the time. I found out later that some girls liked me but never really said anything. Note to women: If you want something, sometimes you just gotta go ask for it. I've learned that now that I'm 43 yrs old!!! Yikes, I don't know about you all, but I don't feel as old as I am. Teacher: Definitely Senior Reyes was most inspirational to me. College Went to ASU and lived at home with my Mom while I attended college. :) The good part was that we had a few roomies over the years while in college, and one was an Arizona Cardinals Cheerleader. This saved us a lot of money and I was able to help my mom out with the bills. I worked at Fiesta Inn as a waiter during college for some extra spending money. Graduated ASU in '87. Wow, so long ago! Workplace Worked at Honeywell Avion...Expand for more
ics for 12 years doing Software Engineering. Then worked at Motorola on the Iridium Satellite Phone system (I don't see anyone using sat phones these days - so you know how that turned out). Then 8 years ago I moved to Raleigh, NC and work at Tekelec Inc as a Software Development Manager. I have a staff of 17 people and am slowly losing my mind and my software development skills!! :) I do like working with people and they all seem to think I am a good boss. Anyone need a job? ha ha. I wish I was retired doing what I want to do like.....travel, travel, and more travel. I have traveled for a month at a time to Thailand and Turkey. Basically just went with a backpack, and a travel guide, and didn't have much of an agenda. I had sights I wanted to see but didn't plan where I was going to stay or how long in each place. I didn't want to lock into a schedule and worry about getting to the next place. If I liked a place I wanted the optoin to just hang out. Those trips were wonderful. I really like studying cultures and languages, so traveling like this was great. Got to really experience the culture by learning the language and customs, as well as talking to locals. The Thais were some of the most friendly people you will ever meet. I want to go back someday! Had similar experiences in Turkey. Just awesome.
