Tommy's Story

After leaving Cherry Valley in 1978 I joined the Jonesboro Police Department. In November 1982 I left Jonesboro and joined the Irving Texas Police Department. Irving is between Dallas and Fort Worth. I retired Irving PD after 27 and 1/2 years of service. During that time I worked patrol and in 1999 was assigned to work inside the Irving Mall. The first thing that happened during a training accident that year was falling off a bicycle and breaking my right shoulder to the extent that I had to have "total shoulder replacement". I was on light duty 368 days. After being released by my doctor I started the Irving Mall assigment. I experimented with various types of communication and education for the mall ...Expand for more
merchants to enhance my response times. This increased work load and arrest load earned me a partner. In 2003 the rank and file officers voted me as the Officer of the Year. This award earned me a week long trip to California and Arizona. I retired Irving in 2010 and now work as a police officer in the John Petersmith Hospital / the Tarrant County hospital located in Fort Worth Texas. I have a married son with 2 granddaughters and a married daughter with one grandson and one granddaughter. My wife Joy since 1974 is still with me and we live in Whitney Texas close to the lake. I retired July 25, 2020 from police work. That gave me 45 years carrying a badge and gun. Any body close to Lake Whitney Texas?
