Toni's Story
Life
I live near Boston, MA, and have two daughters, one husband, a minivan, and a huge number of books. I'm a fulltime mystery writer, and have published fourteen novels, one collection, and a bunch of short stories. I've also co-edited seven anthologies with Charlaine Harris.. Between the kids and writing, I have no hobbies.
School
School seems like a lifetime ago. It should. It WAS a lifetime ago.
I didn't love school, much of the time. I felt out of step a lot--nerdy, brainy, always reading that wierd science fiction stuff. But I had friends who were also nerdy and brainy, so it worked out.
I think I missed out on opportunities by not being more outgoing, and more of a risk-taker, but can't do it over now. Thank goodness.
I adored some of my teathers: Mr. Benson, Mr. Reid, Mr. Ayers, Mr. Bell, Mrs. Gilbert, Mrs. Gilstrap. Others I barely remember, and a very few I despised. What was that Home Ec teacher's name? Couldn't stand her. But I suppose that's p...Expand for more
ar for the course.
I've kept in touch with a few high school friends, who've turned out to be fascinating people. Kind of reassuring.
As my kids get older, I remember more and more of school when I was their age. And I'm so glad I'm not where they are. I have a lot more fun now than I ever did as a kid.
College
College was fun, but I didn't have one of those "most important years of my life" experiences. I enjoyed it and learned a lot, but was ready to graduate and move on.
Let's see... I started out as a Chemistry major, and added English for a double major. Then I hit Organic Chemistry. It hit back. So I dropped Chemistry, and graduated with a BA in English, Cum Laude.
In extracurriculars, I worked on the student newspaper, which was then the CAROLINA JOURNAL; participated in the Gamers Assoc. and the German Drama Club; voluteered at the Writing Resource Lab; did a little work for the literary magazine; and worked an internship at the Public Information Office.
