Tony's Story
Life
My wife Jennifer and I have been married for 16 years now, have a home in West Warwick and have two children.
I have black cat (Spooky) and drive a 2001 GMC Yukon. I have the Yukon because it's bigger than the last SUV I had which I rolled over and totalled. I feel safer in this one :-)
School
Well, I admit that I didn't take school nearly as seriously as I should have. Fortunately with some luck and hard work, I've been able to overcome those "screw off" tendencies.
As far as memories, I have a few...
- Lav Rats. Need I say more?
- Being accused (I will never admit to it) of smoking with a few other students in the men's gym changing room. Who else was there with me anyway?? I think I got like 10-20 nights detention for that! Yeah, I definitely feel that someone else deserves the credit for that one, but I just don't remember who specifically...
- Trestle Twins. Bud Moran called my cousin Mario and I the Trestle Twins because we skipped school one day and decided to hang out by this little pond near a railroad overpass. Well, we got bored and decided to put some change on the tracks just before the trains arrived. Unfortuntely, they arrived a bit quicker than we expected and we were almost killed! Anyway, the Amtrack Police came and delivered us to school in their police cars just as everyone was being let out for the day. How embarrassing! We each got 10 days suspension and had to have our parents come in with us to watch an Amtrack video about the dangers ...Expand for more
of playing on the train tracks.
- Here's one... Bibba, the former English teacher, was completely smashed out of his mind one night and drove right into my parked (in a parking lot) GMC Jimmy. He smashed it so hard that it was pushed over a 5 ft. snowbank and into a house - not through the house, but there was plenty of damage anyway. Absolutely Crazy!
College
I did try attending school (CCRI) but it just didn't work out. I have had the opportunity to attend quite of few IT, Legal and Security seminars and training, but still don't have any degree...yet.
About a four years ago, I began attending an Accredited Online University, Western Governors University (wgu.edu). I'm about 80% of the way there now.
Workplace
Oh sure, I flipped burgers at McDonalds while I was in HS. From there I went to work at a video store on Weeden Street in Pawtucket. Then I worked for The Quill Co (makers of fine pens) in their shipping dept. From there I worked as a data entry operator because I could always type pretty quickly. Somehow I moved my way up to other departments, responsibilities, entirely different functions and now an entirely different career.
Right now I work in the Information Security field at a large financial institution and really enjoy the work that I'm doing. I work very hard and long hours, but really feel that my work is fulfilling.
Military
No direct military experience. I almost signed up after HS but changed my mind at the last minute...pretty typical really :-)
