Trena's Story
Life
Since graduation, I earned a Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Business Management, and joined the Army in March 1990. I have been stationed in Texas, Georgia, Oklahoma, Germany and now Arizona. I am currently a Major. Military life has been great! I have visited every major European country and even some of the very small ones like Tblisi, Georgia and Sofia, Bulgaria. I adopted two kids in 1995, boy and girl, they are 24 and 19. I spent six months in Kosovo working directly with all the Multinational units, both NATO and Non-NATO. What an experience. My last assignment took me across the water to the deserts of Kuwait. I didn't know that it could get that hot. No shade to really speak of so I spent as much time inside as I could. My daughter is in her first year of college and I couldn't be prouder of her. Life is going well.
College
I arrived on campus as a scared lil freshman far from home with no friends until I got to know my basketball team mates and the other athletes that lived in the dorm. What an eye opening experienc...Expand for more
e. I busted my chin and had to get six stiches during our first pickup game in Levitt arena. It was all uphill from there. Hanging out at the CAC with friends, frat parties, and sneaking around campus trying to dodge my sorority pledge leader and big sisters. Delta Sigma Theta since 1986. My junior year I joined ROTC and the rest is history. 15 years later, I am still proudly serving my country.
Military
I have been on active duty for 15 years now. The experience that I have gained as a person and as a professional are invaluable. Being an officer gave me the opportunity to be responsible for others and their actions, to be a a role model, and a leader from the very beginning of my career. You are literally thrown into the fire and either burn or survive. The Army has also provided me the opportunity to meet many people and visit many foreign countries that I would never have thought to visit. I have just about seen the world. There is no doubt that it is rough on the family but the opportunities and experiences are very valuable.
