Tricia Strader:

CLASS OF 1988

Tricia's Story

Life I graduated from Goldey-Beacom College in 1992. Worked as office manager at Newark Post a while; wrote articles for Hockessin Community News/Community Publications. Worked at other office jobs while pursuing dreams. Delaware didn't hold a great job opportunity for me. Was either told was overqualified, or they couldn't afford me even though I may have needed the job at the time. Activities: Sang in church choir for long time during and after high school; was involved in Christian Women's Club and other organizations. I'm a former board member of Civil War Roundtable of Wilmington. In 1995 or '96 I began Civil War reenacting/living history. I still do living history and camp at some reenactments. But I do more lectures and first person appearances now than just civilian reenacting as part of a military unit. Helped form the 8th Virginia, CSA around 2000 or 2001. Now belong to various preservation groups and 5th Virginia, CSA based in West Virginia. I portray Belle Boyd, a young lady Confederate spy and spunky, spirited woman ahead of her time during the Civil War. I do this at the Belle Boyd House in Martinsburg, WV, at reenactments, historical societies and round tables, libraries, and for organizations like Boy Scouts. I moved to West Virginia in 2002. On May 12, 2007, I will be at the Belle Boyd House. On June 20, 2007, I will be at the I-81 North welcome center in Inwood, WV. So if any classmates are traveling I-81 through West...Expand for more
Virginia, look me up there! I have been an extra in several movies in the theater or on television on History and Discovery Channel. They include: "Gods and Generals," "April 1865," "No Retreat From Destiny" (direct to video), Panhandle Perspectives (Adelphia cable, Frederick, Md--interview with "Belle Boyd"/myself in first person). Another one yet to be aired and given final title should be on History or Discovery Channel in future about the evacuation of Fredericksburg, VA during the Civil War. I play a fleeing mother with her family, running through the streets dodging fires and debris, trying to escape with only what we can carry. I also portray Betsy Ross and Varina Howell Davis, wife of President Jefferson Davis of the Confederacy. I've had various jobs. Currently I am pursuing a dream of starting my own writing/publishing business and work as a staff writer for The Journal in Martinsburg, WV, and freelance writer for magazines like Valley Homes & Style based in Hagerstown, MD. I've always loved to write. I began writing my episodes to my favorite TV shows when 11 or 12. I have written some fictional adventures or romance adventures yet to be published. And I'm working on topcs for a novel. I've also been a substitute teacher. Teaching was an early vocation choice of mine that I did not pursue until recent years. In 2006 I ran for county commission where I live. I may run again in '08 as I lost in the primary by a narrow margin.
