Douglass's Story

Blessed. That is the single word I would use to describe my life. There have been plenty of difficult moments and trying times but net/net I have been profoundly blessed. Through the years I have been able to do and be whatever I put my attention on doing and being. I have studied wherever and whatever I wanted to. I continue to study and do research just about every day. I have traveled and worked and lectured all over the world and I continue to. I have met a wonderful assortment of people from many, many different countries, cultures and social stratas. I have been blessed with an amazing group of elder friends and mentors. They have empowered and encouraged me at every turn of my life. Sometimes they have kicked my behind when inertia and subjective dismay temporarily slowed my apparent progress and growth. I have also seen and learned from incredible suffering and just plain evil all over this planet. I have stood for and continue to stand for the healing of the deep and horrible wounds in the Earth and in the hearts of billions of our fellow planetary citizens. As a small portion of my work for Project Earth I have been privileged to study and interact with cetaceans. Last year, while listening in the water for the song of humpbacks, I found myself (along with two other researchers) right in the middle of a family group of very large (40-55 feet) whales. They were incredibly sensitive to our presence and we were blown away by the intensity of their communication. I am still and always a student of love and learning to be more loving. I am also rather fierce when confronted with loveless stupidity. I have had to grow a lot in this lifetime and I pray that I will always continue to grow and learn and leave old bad tendencies in the rubbish bin of the past. Although there is still much more I hope to accomplish I am exceedingly grateful for having been able to participate in shaping several moments in recent history for the better. For those who might be interested I am the cofounder along with the late R. Buckminster Fuller of Project Earth. I have been Director of Project Earth for thirty years now. I am also President of the Institute for Advanced Studies at Aspen. During December, January and sometimes February I do research and live part time on the island of Maui where the Institute has a couple of beautiful facilities including a small, but beautiful observatory. I have invented several technologies. The most famous of these is the Closed Pat...Expand for more
h Homopolar Generator which I co-invented with a truly brilliant former colleague. That was the first of seven generations of highly efficient and no less controversial devices. I have been privileged to have co-invented a method for forecasting earthquakes for which we received a great deal of international press during the first Clinton Administration when I was a consultant on the National Performance Review Project. In 1991 I was a member of a team of scientists and one senior diplomat who went into Saudi Arabia and Kuwait to evaluate and propose remediation for the Oil Fires of Kuwait and the 11 million barrel oil spill in the Persian Gulf/Arabian Sea. Sir Paul McCartney provided major funding for our team and HRH Prince Bandar bin Sultan provided us with unbelievable travel privileges and the services of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The plan of remediation which I authored with the help of our team was embraced and successfully implemented. As a result the Oil Fires of Kuwait were extinguished years ahead of expectations. The book, Hidden Casualties: Environmental, Health and Political Consequences of the Persian Gulf War, contains a lengthy interview I gave prior to the successful remediation efforts. Portions of my videotape of the oil fires and the oil spill were seen by something like two billion people around the world. Most of these saw some portion of this footage before it was ever seen on every major network in the United States. National Geographic also used a segment of my video in their documentary, The Oil Fires of Kuwait. Angels Don't Play This HAARP contains a chapter which is another interview I gave one of the authors. Lee Sannella's book: On Genius: An Evolutionary Force Inherent in Every Being dedicates a chapter to my work. Former Ambassador James George also dedicates a chapter to my work in his new book The Little Green Book on Awakening. I have fortunate to have appeared on every major national and international television network as well as many local and cable channels. The radio medium has also been most generous. All of this might sound like I am blowing my own horn but it is really a rather miraculous testimony to Grace and I do not say this casually. When I say my life has been blessed I really mean it. Who would of thought? There is a saying I embrace daily, "The attitude of gratitude leaves space for grace." I am grateful for the blessing of being simply awakened beyond the spell and the terror of the evening news.
