Twana's Story
Life
So what is going on in the life of Twana?
Not much! Ha!
Actually, I live a normal, slightly boring, slightly crazy life. I moved back to Montgomery a couple of years ago to be near my elderly parents.
I'm a bit of a gypsy. It's really hard to keep me in one spot more than two or three years at a time. I lived in Huntsville for, gees louise, twenty years! and that just about drove me nuts. From 2001 to 2005 I lived in Oregon, but the call of Texas is strong.
Currently I'm an accountant. (Boring! but oh, I love those numbers!) Give me a gnarly bad spreadsheet that needs reconciling and I'm in la-la heaven.
I recently got back into music thanks to an awesome praise team at my church where I play keyboard and sing back up vocals.
As to family, I have two awesomely talented artistic offspring. My son is a musician and a writer. My daughter is an artist. They are both in their 20's, but isn't it interesting how that doesn't mean I have more available income?
The "bio" thing says I should mention pets. Yes, I have pets. I have two smelly cats that think they let me live in my home. And talk about lack of loyalty. A friend comes over and they're all over him. Forget you, ma. We like him better! Sheesh. Cats.
That's about it for now.
Hope you enjoyed reading and will drop me a line.
College
Good ole SHSU in the late 70's. Things I loved about those years: watching from the 4th floor of the library as the snow fell (1 of the 2 times it fell during those years); performing at Old Main; sneaking boys up to the dorm room after hours; sleeping through Dr. Mason's American Lit class; Bombadils; suntanning while watching the Saturday baseball games; walking across town in the middle of the night with a group of friends; walking across town on a hot Sunday afternoon to get a double scoop at Baskin Robbins; Pizza Hut; the jazz band playing at the basketbal...Expand for more
l games; performing in the Christmas concert with the Women's Chorus; not eating dorm food; my tiny apartment on Ave L 1/2 (what is up with the 1/2 streets in Huntsville?); midnight pj runs to Jack in the Box with my room mate and suite mates! LOL!; working summers as a band/cheerleading camp counselor; Little Italy... there are so many wonderful memories from college at Sam Houston. Too many to even begin to record here.
Workplace
So I started out with my first job at (gag) McDonalds as a hostess, actually, as Rhonda McDonald. That was a short career. Then I progressed to waiting tables at the Cafe Texan! WooHoo! I'll never forget the night I made $80 in tips (a lot for the Cafe Texan back then) and dreamed it was $8000. By the time I woke up, I had myself a new car, a new stereo, and my next semester completely paid for... only to realize it was all a dream. After I got married, I managed a garden shop for 5 years and found I love gardening. While there I was a Texas Certified Nurseryman. But that busy life and babies don't get along very well. Not when the spring rolls around and you're at the shop for 60-80 hours a week. So I stayed out of work for a few years and then started my own daycare until my kids were in school. Then I went into my current field of accounting. Music remained active as a hobby, performing with local groups, singing for weddings and special events, and active in the church music. My jobs have all pretty much been management positions, was only in a cubicle for a brief temp job and the rest of my career has provided me with huge offices and all the gnarlies that tag along. After dealing with the nasty office politics and jealous managers (my staff has always been awesome!), I decided to quit the mega-corp racket and work for a small warehouse owned by 3 sweet gentlemen from Mexico. Talk about a beautiful life! I'm blessed!
