My Pets
They're all former strays, because after all this time, I'm still a soft touch. :)
Salty was the first. He's an orange tabby, and the very devil. I adopted him when he was but three weeks old (and he's currently 2 1/2), therefore, he's convinced that I *am* Mommy (i.e., that we're the same species, although I've never been able to figure out if he thinks I'm a cat or he's a person). He's the only cat I've ever met with a corn fetish.
Next is Dr. Pepper. I asopted her from the local animal shelter in the hopes that giving Salty a playmate would lessen his need to use the nearest body part as a chew toy.
This failed, completely.
However, Pepper is a sweet and affectionate calico, with ticklish feet. :) She's the eldest of my cats, at about four years old now. Definitely the Alpha cat.
The most recent addition to our household is a grey and cream (like toroiseshell, but airbrushed) Persian, named Sabrina. She appeared at my door a year ago, the day before Halloween, and was instantly the sweetest, most affectionate cat that I'd ever seen -- and unnaturally thin. :( When she came to my door on Halloween, too, I adopted her. She's an absolute joy, and *is* the companion I'd wanted for Salty ... ...Expand for more
and unexpectedly, the one I'd wanted for myself, but never known it. She always is in the same room I am, often at my feet, and in constant purr.
Sorry you asked? ;)
My Kids
I'll be less effusive than I was with my pets. :) I have a son, who is affectionate, intelligent, and darned funny. He is the absolute best thing in my life, bar none.
My Job
I teach Intro to Theatre (a writing-intensive GE course) to a wide variety of students. The last few years I've been gifted with (and yes, that's how it feels to me) the learning communities and the incoming frosh communities and I just love it. They're capacity for going at it full force just enriches me.
Basically, I teach a literature-based course, where the students read on average a play a week or so, in association with some topic in theatre (e.g., design, directing, Aristotle's Poetics, feminist theatre, African-American theatre, etc.). Then about once a week, we break into smaller sections and the students work with the material and the topic in a more detailed fashion. They write three papers and a play, among other things. At the end of the semester, they put on performances of about three 10-minute plays per section written by other members of the section.
