Kari's Story
Life
I become an widow from the Iraq conflict. I have raised 2 wonderful boys and adopted a special needs child that used to be in foster care. My husband was in the Army serving in Iraq. He and I used to take karate and rappelling along with my children at the local college. My interest is in law enforcement and I have worked as a police officer and an emergency medical tech. I have also trained as a firefighter, just for fun. The most fun thing I have done in the past 10 years was to rappel down a 600 foot granite rock in Colorado. I have been a foster parent for some amazing children. I gain so much from these children and enjoy the early age kids the most. I took 3 little girls to Disney World for a week. The look in their eyes when they saw Mickey Mouse in person, was priceless.
College
I can't believe I waited until I was in my 30s to get my degree. My children came first and I ...Expand for more
have no regrets. I really enjoyed my college more at the later age. I took rappelling, firefighting, emergency med tech and karate for my electives. My major was in Criminal Justice, imagine that, since my dad was a cop and my brother is now. I guess it is in the family. Looking forward to heading back to college soon.
Workplace
I now work from home, but I have enjoyed working as a police officer, jail deputy, professional photographer, emergency medical tech and social worker. I now put all of that together to care for special needs foster children.
Military
My late husband was an MP in the Army and my son is a Cav Scout in Alaska. We were stationed at Fort Campbell, KY. He was attached to the 3rd BCT of the 101st Airborne (Band of Brothers) that is now in Iraq. This was his first tour. I still wish to help those who have gone through what I have with military life and beyond.
