Val's Story

Life Wow...to sum up nearly 30 years in a few paragraphs will take an act of God! After graduating from HEHS, I went to ISU and majored in Mass Communications with an emphasis in television production. I worked for my father for a while then I ran the production studio in Schaumburg for Cablenet in the early '80's. My next venture took me to Roscor in Mt. Prospect in 1985. I did purchasing and customer service. That's where I met my husband, Yohay. He worked for one of our vendors. In Janurary of 1987 we moved into our 1st home in Elgin. We married in 1990 and had a son in November of 1992. In January of 1997 we moved to Buffalo Grove where we now live. When I moved back to Schaumburg after college, I began teaching group exercise as a side job. Truth be told, I really wanted a free membership! :) I realized years later that I could actually make a living doing something I really have a passion for. In early 1996 I became a certified personal trainer. I have been working now at a hospital-based fitness facility for 10 years. I specialize in diseases, disorders, pre and post re-habilitation, mature adults, and lifestyle modifications. I also do public speaking for corporations and schools and attend health fairs. It's a great gig! If you need my services, send me an email. :) My life is pretty nice...things ebb and flow like waves in the ocean. I can't complain. My husb...Expand for more
and owns the company he worked for when we first met (Joseph Electronics) and business is good. The demands of being the owner can be quite challenging at times. Basically, I work for myself also. My clients employ me, not the facility. Through all the demands, we would much rather be our own bosses than answer to anyone else. As Julia Roberts says in "Pretty Woman"..."I say who, I say when, I say how!" What an awesome mantra! A bit about our son, David. He is enrolled as a freshman at Stevenson High School. Tryout's for golf last fall didn't go too well, so he instead ran cross country. He earned his freshman letter and is planning on running track this spring. David is a very active guy, not the "couch potato" type. Maybe because he's grown up in a gym, ya think? He also loves to play soccer and football preferably "flag football" otherwise he gets killed...(5'3" and 99# I'm sure you get the picture). He's been a Boy Scout now for over two years. He is a Star Scout on the brink of being Life. There is only one classification left after that, Eagle. Hopefully he will achieve this. David is on his way. Well, that just about sums up my life since high school. By the way, those of you who know Beth Cole '77...she and I were extremely good friends back at HEHS. We've been relatives since December 1980 when she married my brother Terry. See, unique things really do happen.
