Valencia's Story
What am I doing? 20 years later and I'm still working in television. After my stints in Lufkin, Houston, San Antonio and back to Houston, I moved to Connecticut to work for ESPN. I was at ESPN for 4 long painful years. Of course when I was at ESPN, I went to 3 World Series, 2 Final Fours and 3 MLB All-Star games. I'll take that. I left there and now I'm working for the YES Network. What is that you ask? It's the New York Yankees television network. I've been at YES for 6 years. I get to mix that in with hockey at Versus (which I hate) but it's something different. I basically spend the majority of my 365 days in a year with baseball and hockey players. Not a bad job. It beats a whole lot of other jobs out there.
I get to travel a lot for work which is good. I was in Canada in August with the Yankees.
I love free trips that help me collect my airline miles.
Last summer I finally got the chance to take a 2 week vacation to Europe. I went to Spain, Italy, France and Malta. I highly recommend Barcelona and Rome. Fantastic Cities.

ntry lives. There's more to life than what we do here in the 50 states. I've seen all of the U.S. that I want to see so it's off to other countries. Next country for me will be either Ireland or Russia next year.
Getting out of Lufkin was one of the best things I could have done. What would I possibly be doing there? Probably nothing that I would want to do, I'm pretty sure of that. I don't even know the last time I was in Lufkin...maybe in 2006. I always knew that small town East Texas wasn't for me. Too many small minds there. So at 19, I was O U T! Lufkin in my rear view mirror. See you when I see you.
I will say this, I do miss the football Fridays. A lot of people up here have asked me how accurate Friday Night Lights is. I tell them that the only thing accurate about that movie is the sheer passion that Texans have for high school football. Other than that, the movie stunk. I watched the first 10 minutes and off it went. I did hear that LP got a slight mention in the movie. Booooo. That game against Mojo was our game to play. Stupid cheating Dallas Carter criminals.
Anyway, that's all about me. Sports, traveling and television. That's my life. I wouldn't trade it for the world.
