Valerie's Story
Hi everyone....See below for updates!! Also, please visit my Facebook page (Valerie Androus Laam). I've been married twice, once at 20, and once at 33. Still married to the 2nd one, my dear Steve. I have three boys from my first marriage, Matthew, Jonathan, and Michael, and Steve had one daugher, Angie (deceased). We combined forces in 1987, and have enjoyed life much ever since. We have 10 grandchildren, 10 ggrandchildren, and were both very busy with our careers over the years. I worked for State Parks as a Manager (now retired), and Steve was a Stationary Engineer at the Dept. of Justice (now retired). I worked part time at DPR's Mobile Equipment Warehouse, helping out with our statewide fleet management, but just recently retired from that as well.
We've been very lucky in love and family, and truly enjoy what life has to offer. We owned our little home in Tahoe Park (Sacramento), and recently sold it and bought a mountain home in Pollock Pines. We live a simple and peaceful life. Our kids are all grown, and live in WA, Idaho, Placerville, and Sacramento, so we get to go on a lot of trips to visit. We currently have two dogs Sirius The Dog Star, and Vegas. We have had many beloved pets over the years that have brought us much joy! We had chickens for years, but lost them during the Caldor Fire in 2021.
High school was not the greatest time for me, my dad was very sick the whole time with cancer, and died when I was 19. However, everything afterward has been wonderful and worth every minute! Best wishes to you all, hope to hear back from some of you :) - Enjoy...Expand for more
this beautiful day (everyday!).
4/15/05 - I had a radical mastectomy, but have been cancer free since then.
11/16/09 - Underwent successful breast reconstruction surgery so am hopeful to put this all behind me on my life's journey! Unfortunately, I had a pulmonary embolism from surgery, but am now fully recovered.
4/6/10 - Decided to retire so I can fully enjoy my life. I'm happy to be at home, and hope to have a lot of fun in retirement. My husband retired 10/1/10 so we are looking forward to traveling...we just bought a wonderful 20' travel trailer and have gone on some really fun adventures with it!
7/10 - Went back to work as a Retired Annuitant a couple of days a week - Love my new job! Steve is continuing to remodel our home, and gives guitar lessons on the side. We're hoping to travel to England, Ireland and Scotland in the next five years, and to other spots as well if funds permit. I want to go deep sea fishing again, I haven't done that for many years!
11/12/10 - Our daughter Angela (36) died unexpectedly on 10/2/10. She was a registered nurse and lived in Idaho with her four children. A very sad time, but each day is a little better. Give your loved ones an extra hug today, because you never know when they will be gone.
7/16 - Finally retired for good, and love the freedom to do whatever I want. We're currently caregivers for my elderly Mom, and I feel blessed to still have her in my life.
8/16 - Moved from Sacramento to Pollock Pines, love it here!
5/10/24 - Surgery for Breast Cancer again! Treatments to follow but keeping fingers crossed!!
