Valerie's Story
Life
Valerie (Dodenhoff) Lawson is currently living on fourteen acres of trees overlooking Passamaquoddy Bay in downeast, Maine with her partner, Michael Brown and a siberian husky named Tahoe. She is the mother of a daughter, Colleen who lives in North Carolina with her grandson, Liam. After years of a day job in healthcare, she is back in school studying website graphic design. Lawson is the co-editor of the literary journal, Off the Coast and co-hosts a reading series in the easternmost town in the lower 48, Eastport, Maine. Her poetry has been published in literary journals, anthologies, and websites. th Doc Brown's Traveling Poetry Show at the Cambridge Poetry Awards in 2004. Lawson has traveled to Europe and the UK to read and perform poetry. She is a participant in Optimal Avenues, a mixed media cultural exchange between Massachusetts and Ireland, celebrating the United Nation's International Decade for the Culture of Peace. She is a contributor to the Culture of Peace, Next of Kin, and Genre Art: Everyday Life, exhibits of art and poems. And has had her artwork and photography shown in juried and shows and published in magazines. In February of 2007, Lawson released Dog Watch, a full-length collection of poetry. In 2008, she was invited as a Legacy Poet to the first Women of the World Poetry Slam in Detroit.
