Vernon's Story
Well, I enlisted into the Army right after I graduated from highschool and became an Army legal specialist (civilian equivalent of a paralegal). After basic training and advanced individual training (AIT), I went to airborne school and was subsequently assigned to Ft. Bragg, NC as a battalion legal specialist. I never deployed from Bragg (though I was on one of those planes you may have heard about that was heading to Haitii and was turned around) but I did a LOT of field time. A little over three years later I decided that the enlisted life wasn't for me and submitted an officer packet (Green-to-Gold) which was approved.
After my packet was approved, I went back to Savannah and attended SSU through the ROTC program, and was able to go through Air Assault School at Ft. Belvoir, VA. While at SSU, I was a member of the Marching...Expand for more
Tigers (trombone), pledged Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc, majored in Political Science and minored in Military Science, and graduated and was commissioned as an Army Quartermaster Officer in May 99.
After graduation I went to Ft. lee, VA where I attended the Logistics Officer Basic Course and completed Rigger School. I got married Jan '00 and was stationed at Ft. Campbell, KY. For the next 7 years my wife and I have had a combined total of 5 deployments between us from Kosovo to Iraq (she is also military), and managed to have three kids somewhere in between; Vernon III, November, and Autumn (we have been blessed!)
We are now stationed at Ft. Lee, VA; I am currently pursuing a graduate degree in logistics management. Upon completion, I will be assigned to Ft. Lee as an instructor for the Logistics Officer's Advance Course
