Vernon's Story

Decided to update my profile. Betty (Scott; also 1965) and I have been married 43 years (this September). We have one son (James Edward Locke) 39 years old (also a NOVI graduate in 1988) and married to Cynthia Zepek (a NOVI graduate of 1990). We have 2 beautiful grand daughters (Christina 18 and Virginia 13). We are still living in Riverside in the same area since I moved here in 1959. Many changes since then. We still own an upscale beauty salon near the Riverside Plaza. We closed our gift shop, that was adjacent to the salon, in 1999 when I was diagnosed with throat cancer. Then, 6 months later I had a kidney removed due to a baseball sized tumor. I have been through radiation and chemotherapy and have passed the 9 years mark (this month) and am pretty much going strong. I am about twice what I should weig...Expand for more
h and have high blood pressure, diebetes, a failing kidney, congestive heart failure and a few other ailments -- but, the cancer didn't get me (yet). I am retired (except for misc. maintenance at the salon). I am spending as much time as possible pursuing a hobby of photography shooting for various shows and carry several lines of cards higlighting the local areas. Betty is still working in the salon and running it on a day to day basis. Her back is wearing out and she is about ready to retire (hopefully soon). She has also been spending some time with the cameras. Well, this is enough to keep those that are interested going.
