Veronica's Story

Life I am extremely happy with my life and life experiences. I went directly to college after leaving AHS. I am a proud graduate of Florida A&M University, having graduated in 1974 with a B.S. in Nursing. In 1984 I decided on graduate school and obtained my masters degree in Community Health Ed/Administration from Kent State University. Currently I am in my first year of law school and expect to obtain an Executive Juris Doctorate degree in health. I have worked as a Health Services Administrator in public and private sector. I currently reside in Philadelphia and work as a Nurse Consultant for the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. I have two children, a son age 30 who is a professionally trained executive chef in LA, CA and starting his own catering business. My daughter is age 24 and recently graduated from Temple University. The "princess" still resides at home. My husband of 30 years owns a real estate company. I enjoy traveling abroad. I lived in the PI for two years and in Guam for two years. My family and I have made several abroad vacations. We have visited Germany, France, Spain, Africa, Japan, and our latest trip was to Korea. We pride ourselves on learning and appreciating the cultures of others. While we have found all of the countries interesting and unique in their own ways, we all agree that Japan was the best experience, especially considering the friendly nature of the people there. Their hospitality remains unmatched. In the US my favorite geographical area to live is definitely the Northeast. I love New York because of it's diverse population and cultural experiences, and I love Philadelphia for it's history. My daughter loves the Northeast as well. My husband on the other hand loves Seattle and spends much of his time there. I lik...Expand for more
ed Seattle when I lived there but have never regretted relocating to Philadelphia. We lived in Colorado for a little less than two years and while most people love it there it never really suited my life-style. My son is a California lover. He insists that he will never live anywhere he has to wear a coat. I can't say that I miss living in Florida but I do so miss not seeing my sisters and brother on a regular basis. Since my mom's and dad's death things are not quite the same. We do however return there at least once a year and have a condo in North Central Florida, where we may end up retiring. It is funny how our lives take us through many journeys around the globe and back. Our life experiences help to formulate who we become, and dictates how we raise our children. Although as imperfect as my children may be (although perfect in mine eyes) they love life and respect mankind and have always been encouraged to "treat others as you wish to be treated" and they do, which makes me very proud as a mother. While I continue to stumble upon this earth I hope that I will touch someone's life in a positive way and perhaps be remembered for something good and kind. It would pain me greatly if one could not remember one kindly thing that I had said or done. Military Spent 9.5 years in the Army Reserves, 301st Field Hospital Unit in Gainesville, Fl at the rank of Captain. I resigned by commission with the Army in 1994 and became commissioned as a US Public Health Service Officer at the rank of LCDR. Worked for 1.5 years with the Federal Bureau of Prisons in Florence, Co. Transfered to Immigration Health Services as Health Services Administrator in Elizabeth, NJ. Made the rank of CDR in 1998 and transfered to CMS, in Philadelphia, Pa and currently work there as a Nurse Consultant.
