Vicki's Story

Life I retired from General Electric Power Systems, Schenectady, NY, in 1995 and moved that year to Lawrenceville, Ga. I have no children but do have a very spoiled 8 year old Yorkie. I enjoy being close to family having spent so many years & miles away. I have one of my sisters living with me and we have great fun traveling since she lived for years in California and I in the great Northeast! I would like to hear from any co-workers that remember me from years past. I worked for GE in Charlotte, NC, Atlanta, GA, North Bergen NJ and two times in Schenectady NY where I retired after 37 years! Since retiring, I spent several years teaching basic computer skills to senior citizens in the local Senior Net group. Name a hobby and I have either tried it, bought a book about it and , no doubt, have tooling to support it. Reading is my favorite past time and have been learning to do e-Bay hoping to reduce the number of books I have stacked all around! If you like mysteries written by Lisa Scottolino, Mary Higgens Clark, and JD Robb plus numerous others I probably could supply you with many hours of reading materials. Look for me on e-Bay, I'm Vicki7970. Since writing above , my yorkie has passed aay and I miss her terribly. I am now engaged in jewelry making as a therapy for keeping my mind and body active as I have developed Parkinson's Disease. I have an artist friend that joins me in my activities and is determined to teach me water coloring! I'm trying but so far I am not willing to share my efforts even with family members. I can still drive on good days but on my "bad" days my sister (Carmen) who shares our home does the driving so we get around fine and into as much trouble as we can handle!! I'd like to hear from others in any of my communities that would like to share their stories with me. I always wanted to be a nurse when I grew up. My family and friends thought that was a far fetched idea. As it turns out, they were right. My oldest friend is a guy I met at my first job 60 years ago and we still keep in touch. He has the type of personality that clicks with mine and we enjoy just talking about all subjects. He is very caring and has always found me as I moved so many times in my job with GE. He lives about 60 miles from me now and is always there to listen and give me good advice when I need it. I am so fortunate that he is still here. I am now into doing pastel pencil and chalk drawings and have some in my photo album. I have several books and my friends to rely on giving me pointers and suggestions to make very primitive drawings better. This is an art I can really get lost in while doing it and forget all the vagaries life deals us. I am very nostalgic and have concentrated on things that have meant something in my life - like a drawing of my Agatha Leigh and my father's car he purchased the year I was born. I have just finished a cartoon showing my transition from Schenectady NY to North Bergen NJ by depicting my passion for ...Expand for more
VW Beetles and Karman Ghias. Those are the cars I owned when I was transferred and moved to new homes. On the drawing board now is the beginnings of a drawing of Billy, my first dog companion on the farm, my friend and confident when I got into trouble, which was often! I've lived an interesting life and there is more to come and I look forward to it with zest. I always wanted to be a nurse when I grew up. My family and friends thought that was a bad idea. As it turns out, they were right. I really enjoy lunching with my friends and catching up on their lives. My hero is my sister Carmen who just passed away. The dignety and acceptance was awsome and much to aspire to. If I could improve my home, I'd remodel my workroom and add on a big storage area for my stuff. My dream home would be perfect. My best friend would tell you I'm talented, but people who don't know me very well would probably describe me as interesting. My latest news is that I have decided to move to a retirement village because I no longer feel good about being so alone since both my sister who had lived with me 14 years and my adorable doggie Agatha both passed away in the past four months. The place I have picked is beautifully decorated and I will be having my own apartment (independent living) and will be able to socialize and meet new and interesting friends. I plan to move over permanently on 1/8/10 (not very long) and begin my new life in new surrundings and most everything done for me! Having this home has been wonderful and I loved being here until it became overwhelming because of the emptiness and lonliness. The good news too is that I'll be able to get a new puppy to fill that empty spot in my heart and have something to love and be loved by. I don't want or care to replace Agatha, just add to my menagarie of animals that I have enjoyed and loved over the years. This Christmas has not been one for the memories, I can tell you but if I'm lucky I'll have a better story for next year. Will tell you more after I move. I've just moved back to my home after a stint in an assisted living home. Glad to be back free of the accident that sent me there. I'm in the throes of resetting up housekeeping on my own and enjoying every minute of it. I liked the people I met in the assisted living home and plan to volunteer there three times a week. They all were there because it is the last stop for most because of their diabilities and luckily they can afford to be taken care of in style. I am lucky that I could come back home and live alone with my precious companion, Grisham to keep me company. He gets his first grooming tomorrow so that will be a big day for us. I'll post his picture now that he is no longer a baby but a big boy! My hobby room is taking shape and soon you'll be seeing more of my handiwork. That's Grisham you see on my profile. Now you know why I adore him! Still working to get things back the way I want them but am happy with the results so far.
