Vicki's Story
Life
This summer our family attended the Boy Scouts of America Ranch in Cimarron, New Mexico. It was an amazing experience for each one of us. My husband attended for training since he is a commissioner for the BSA. I was able to do some fun things like hiking and COPE course challenges. It was so fun to jump off a 55 foot zip line and also do a challenge called "The Confidence Pole". Our 14 year old daughter went on a 5 day 30 mile backing trip in the mountains. She actually loved it and said she would go back. We learned about the generosity of others - the ranch was donated to the BSA from a man named Waitt Phillips. There is an incredible story behind the amazing way he lived his life. Boy Scouting is a part of our life. Our 12 year old son is on his way to being an Eagle Scout.
School
My best friend was Cynthia Gomez (student body president). I also hung out with Jill West, Sharine Mesamie (spelling?) and Melanie Hansen. Bret Sloan was a boyfriend and one of my very best friends. He was there for me during my parents divorce. I loved being around him and his family. I am so sorry I lost touch with him. I remember Mr. Briscoe (math) how he would throw a mallet in the air and catch it while teaching us. Also Mr. Santos was a favorite of mine. He was always teasing and joking. I moved to Arizona the summer before my senior year. ...Expand for more
I have lost touch with most everyone I went to school with in California. I graduated from Mesa High School in 1989 but it should have been Santa Teresa High. Most of my favorite memories are from 6th grade to 9th grade. I had so much fun at Bernal Junior High. I liked it better than High School.
College
When my husband and I got married I worked full time so that he could finish college. We decided then that I would go back to school when the kids were all in school. So . . now that our youngest is in first grade, it is time! I will be attending our local community college and then on to ASU. I will be taking the slow boat to finish but eventually my goal is to have a Bachelors Degree.
Workplace
I worked for a paging company out of High School and that is where I met my husband. While he was attending college I worked for an engineering firm named Horizon. I worked for them for 4 years until I stayed home after we had our 2nd child. I have enjoyed being a full time mom and spending time with our children. It has been a blessing and a privledge in my life. I am currently doing part time bookeeping for our construction company (MacLay Construction). I love having the time to be at our children's school doing volunteer work and having a flexible schedule to serve in my church. I am thankful I do not have to work outside our home.
