Vickie's Story
I was born in Hemphill. Grew up there w/ my parents, the late James and Verdie Hicks; two sisters - Helen and Lynn; one brother, James (aka Bo). Loved living in "the country" (the Thomas Johnson community) w/ family and friends. Played basketball and volleyball (w/ Dorothy Henson, Deckie Hoyle, Kathy & Mona White, Beverly Jones, Vickie Reynolds, et.al.); voted prom queen (w/ Leon Thomas (Hamilton), most studious (w/ Peggy Johnson, Richard Felts, Lisa Craig, et. al.) and football sweetheart (rode on Tony Greer's blue Z-28!). It was a "scandal"! Graduated from HHS somewhere near the top 10 or 15% of our 68 seniors. Attended Wiley College in Marshall, TX. Graduated Magna Cum Laude in 1983 w/ a degree in Business Adm. Landed a great job in Washington, D.C after graduation, lived and worked there as an aide/researc...Expand for more
her in Congress until 1985. Partied like there was no tomorrow! Returned to the Great State of Texas in 1986. Worked w/ the JCP Company (the retailer) for a couple of years in Dallas. Hated it! Offered a position w/ the Dept of Labor in April of '88 - in Dallas. Jumped on it! Was a contract administrator/project manager for 15 years; a division chief for the Job Corps Program for the last 5. Love it! Met a great man in 1992; ran from him for 1 year; married him in 1993! Gave birth to our one and only "favorite little girl" in Jan '97! She's a "mini me"! Poor child! Have a great home in a Dallas suburb. I love to travel, drive my "gas guzzling SUV" around Texas, relax w/ my 'gurls", play cards, listen to hip-hop (love Mary J!), dominos and video poker. God has blessed me beyond measure and continues to do so.
