Vicky's Story

Life Sept. 09--I just realized that I'm still a Classmates Gold member--apparently I haven't noticed they've been charging my credit card to renew me! So I'm going to try to get my money's worth. Besides, I'd like to know what's up with people. I'm still working as a freelance stenographer--same as a court reporter, except in Utah you're not in the courts much unless you take an official state job. I do mostly deposition work. I'm very active in my middle age, doing lots of hiking and now backpacking, complete with doing the no-flush-toilet thing. I'm a member of the Wasatch Mountain Club here in Utah, a great group of very active outdoor enthusiasists. I've done river running, hiking, snowshoeing, backpacking, rappeling, a wee bit of canyoneering, and some very fun parties at the historic lodge in the mountains nearby. I'm single--again. At the 30-year reunion I had just recently married a guy who turned out to be a very abusive jerk, a drunk with a narcissistic personality disorder. Soon afterwards I removed him from my life, which was a very good decision. Needless to say, chalk up one more bad experience that will not be repeated! I'm still single, keeping my eyes open but not desperate by any means. I'm finally a grandmother...Katie had a baby girl on Valentine's Day 2008. They live in St. Louis and I'm in Salt Lake City, but fortunately I'm self-employed and ...Expand for more
can take time from work. Katie works for Southwest Airlines and I can fly there for free. Melanie, my second daughter, finished her stint in the navy and got a college degree in travel, meetings & hospitality, then went to an academy to become a seasonal park ranger. She'll probably aim for the BIG certification down the road so she can be on a 20-year retirement plan. She's working on a master's degree in leadership and emergency preparedness. I plan to use her brains a lot to get me to fun places! In 2007 I spent the entire summer in Alaska, my "sabbatical" after over 20 years in my career. I'd love to do it again sometime, but maybe closer to retirement. I still have many memories of my life--even kindergarten, where Santa Claus arrived outside in a helicopter and then handed out presents to all the kids--and everyone got a toy except for me; I got a little knitted hat and I thought Santa was punishing me for being bad. And somehow, the people I knew clear back from grade school still have a place in my heart, you might say. There's something about having some kind of history with someone--you can never meet new people and have that history! That's why as long as there are reunions, I'll do my best to be there. You might not remember me, but I remember YOU!! Contact me! Come and visit! I have a nice place with extra rooms! (But you can't be anybody "scary"!)
