Victor's Story
Life
I been pretty busy since after school. Had 2 kids after high school, needed more money for more mini me's. Went to college some there at SMTC. Fell into the semiconductor field where I still work on the equipment that makes computer chips. Been at it for 12 years now. I have lived in Vermont, North Carolina and am presently now outside of Phoenix, Arizona. But Im looking around at Austin, TX presently. Fell in love with the Austin scene recently and am pondering moving there.
Thats the business end of things.
For fun, I found a very fun community of people when I attended my first Burningman festival in 2000. Since then I have started doing alot of volunteer work for the event as well as the commmunity.
For the community, I set myself up as the Burningman Regional Contact where I started an artist/Burner group down there and worked hard at it for several years. And the end result, well 5 of us went and started one of the most popular regional Burns in the US! Its called Transformus and its in the Smokey Mountains, third week of July.
At Burningman, Im on my 5th year hanging with the Lamplighters. They are the hard core group that takes care of the 800 some odd lanterns that light Black Rock City at Burningman. Its a great bunch of people, and...Expand for more
they are the real reason I still go to Burningman. Im out there usually almost 3 weeks for setup and teardown of the village as well as fill in with the DPW crew as needed. I really enjoy the setup/teardown aspect of things really more than the event itself.
So yeah. The job field Im in is terribly insecure, but it affords me alot of time off and good cash when times are good. I travel across the US on my free time. I fly home to see friends, kids and family when ever I get the chance. And I am hitting Burns on my off time, setting fires and working hard when Im not.
Oh and I ride a Harley, but I did an end over flip there a couple years back driving like an animal. Bike is tore up a little, and Im ok. I lost interest in cheating death on a bike for a little while. But Im back in that game, got about 90% of the parts I need. Just need the time. Thank god for peat bogs saving lives of crazy yankees!
I miss Maine ALOT, but I just cant make the money I need to make there. The more I travel, the more people I met that have never really met anyone from Maine and Im very proud to represent. No matter where I go or where I live, Maine will always be home.
But hey, I make the best of it I can.
What else can one do?
C'est la vie flambe.
