Victoria's Story
In high school, I was somewhat shy and self conscious about my weight. I had many friends from different circles, so I was lucky, but I wanted to be FREE!
I dropped out of school in 11th grade due to family issues at home, and became wild for about 4 years before marrying Greg Fries, a very good looking young man who fed my insecurities and helped me feel more worthwhile. We were married 8 years. My weight issues became worse because I still felt insecure and repressed. I divorced him in 1980. A year later I met my 2nd husband and did the same thing with him I did with Greg - I married him without really knowing him. That marriage was a disaster from day one. It ended 7 years later in August 1990. Two years before that I had decided to take my GED without studying for it and I passed and started OUL with the intention of teaching High School Literature. Mr. Lucasko had made a lasting impression on me and I wanted to impart on others what I had learned from him.
Six months into college, I decided i was going to write so I majored in English/Creative Writing and minored in Art & Communication. I loved it. In 1992 I began to get sick. I missed a lot of school and made an unwise leap to Circleville Bible college. I was only there a month when I realized something was really wrong with me. I slept all the time and was exhausted. I came back to Lancaster and rested for a few months when my case manager for Bureau of Vocational Rehab asked me if I wanted to go back to school. I decided a business college might be easier. So I majored in Medical Transcription and went to what is now...Expand for more
Damar business college. That didn't last either. I kept falling asleep at the computer or I would stare at it and wonder what I was supposed to be doing. My mind was a blank. I had to quit. I did a 2 year Independent Correspondence course from the NRI School for Writers. I did very well there. I began to write for the first time since my ex destroyed 2 novels I had written in 1985-1990. I met a man named, Bill in 1994 and found out I was diagnosed with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and Fibromyalgia as well as chronic EBV (the virus which causes mono). I was very sick the next few years and was diagnosed with MS in January of 1998. I have been slowed down considerably since then.
I saw a very good psychologist for 6 years and in 2003 I ended the relationship with Bill and began, for the first and only time in my life, coming out of myself and beeing free to be who I am. It is my delight to say that I have been a much freer, happier, flirty person since then. I ended up gaining lots of weight from the steroids and prednisone and weighed at one point over 500 pounds! It was the worst. I am still losing but I *have* already lost 170.5 pounds and am very happy most of the time.
I now am working on my writing. I manage some email groups for the owners. I love to research. I read a lot. I enjoy my "babies" (nine birds who are my babies).
I would very much like to get in touch with some of my old classmates and share about what is going on in our lives.
If anyone has any questions, feel free to ask.
Sincerely,
Victoria - class of 1971- where the good times were!!! And the best music!
