Victoria's Story

Life Aloha mai, Kia ora, Ia Orana, Kiaorana, Talofa, Kaoha nui, Bon Jour, Konichiwa, and G'Day! I've had several lifes but the best is right now. I I am an archaeologist and interpretive specialist for the State of Hawaii, State Parks, on our beautiful island of Kauai. I have been very active with Bishop Museum projects, and was their Archaeology Collections Manager. I have lived in Hawaii for the past 30+ years. Have also lived in San Francisco, Vacaville, San Diego, France, Tahiti (Moorea, Rangiroa, Nuku Hiva), New Zealand and more... After returning to school at the University of Hawaii at Mānoa and completing my Honors BA in Anthropology, Journalism & French, I lived in Auckland, New Zealand where I attended the University of Auckland for Master of Arts degree in Anthropology/Archaeology. I've been fortunate to have been working in Polynesia on islands such as Rapa Nui, New Zealand, Nuku Hiva Marquesas, Moorea Tahiti, and my real home base of Kauai, Hawaii. In addition to have been classically trained in archaeology, my specialties are faunal analysis, collection curation practices, historic preservation, and different surveying techniques. I'm married to a wonderful...Expand for more
man, Randy, who is also my best friend. I have a beautiful daughter, Arika, who is a beautiful woman & great surfer, and I had a son, Nils, who passed away in 1992. Arika has three children, Makena, Waimea & Nāwaʻa and lives on Maui. On Kauai we are very involved with Hawaiian historic preservation and stewardship of several ancient Native Hawaiian sites. Randy is an Historian and President/Director of the Kauai Historical Society, and the president/boardmember/chair of several historic preservation non-profits and councils. I am on several museum, county historic preservation, stewardship and archaeology boards myself. Since I finished my MA I've been writing journal articles based on research I did as a student, as well as some fieldwork in the Marquesas (two months in Anaho, Nuku Hiva), Tahiti (three months in Mo'orea during our summer of '08) and Kauai (Nu'alolo Kai, Miloli'i, Limahuli, and Lawai Kai). We also spend a good amount of time in Tahiti & France (La Loire et surtout Paris). Travelling is very much part of our life. And, although a PhD is lurking around the corner, for now it's great to be home! A hui hou! Ke aloha no, me ke aloha ke akua pū, Victoria
