Life
Hola fellow Commodores!
After graduation, I attended LSU, majoring in Psychology. I then went through the electroencephalographic technology program at LSU Medical School. Upon graduation, I married another LSU alum, Bert Horn, who was finishing his first year of medical school at UTMB in Galveston. during this time I had my own business, setting up a path lab in a spare closet and doing contract work for two pathologists. We then moved to Sacramento CA for his internship in internal medicine and a Neurology residency. I worked in the EEG lab at the University medical center. While in CA in the late 70's, we acquired a love of wine and spent many days in Napa, as well as backpacking the parks and cross country skiing around Lake Tahoe.
When he finished his training, we moved to Austin TX, where he joined a private practice group. We bought a house, and eventually, rental properties and a place on Lake Travis. We never found time to have children.
In 1984, we took up scuba diving and eventually underwater photography became a passion. We traveled the Indo-Pacific, the Caribbean, the South Pacific, the Middle East and NZ, hunting elusive, rare creatures. We also traveled for reasons other than diving, event...Expand for more
ually spending a month each year in Indonesia, particuarly Bali, and driving through much of Italy over the years.
In 1994, we purchased 30 acres of land on the Pacific coast of Costa Rica with partners. I became the managing partner, traveling to CR 4 times a year. We built a house on the property in 2000, with myself overseeing the construction.
I lost my father to heart disease in 1988 and my older sister Shelley(Michelle-who married a '68 grad, Ed Chiminiello) in 2004 to ovarian cancer. My mom and younger sister, Jonni, still live in Wichita KS, where my family returned to after I married, my Dad, working for Boeing.
Bert and I parted ways in 2004. After crunching the numbers, I realized I could live a comfortable lifestyle in Costa Rica on a lot less money. So I moved here full time in Feb.2005. I live 10 minutes from the beach that I look down upon. I am developing property and have a fledgling custom dessert business. I have settled easily into the lifestyle here, waking early(it gets light at 4:50am!) and going to bed early. Very different from the night owl I was in the States!
Life is very much an adventure for me at this stage, and I feel truly blessed to be where I am at this moment in my life.
