Vincent's Story

Life Enjoying full retirement for the past two years. Betsy and I celebrated 38 years together in March, 2006. Our two daughters are doing well. Kristen,36, has two boys, Nash, age 7, Brock, age 5. We adore them. They live 10=15 min away in Walnut Creek. Meredith, 33, has a career in banking. Betz and I just spent the last year doing a major overhaul on the house. Still a lot of details to finish, but we're hoping to enjoy it for another 10-15 yrs. As of now we have plans on the 45th reunion weekend. Slight chance they may fall through, in which case I'll try to come on the spur of the moment. Who knows what's in store. I never imagined sitting at a keyboard writing something like this. Please excuse the rambling. I'm sure this sounds familiar to most of you. Changing email account . Like to hear from you, but can't promise to be a faithful correspondent. Good health and best to you all. Take, Vinnie Update: Dec 20, 2009 Doing this so I don't have to tell it over and over to all the nice people who have reconnected with me. went to the 45th reunion on the spur of the moment, accompanied by my daughter Meredith for a week. Before and after the reunion we had get togethers with three different sets of cousins and spent four days in NYC. We really enjoyed the casualness of the reunion, as opposed to a formal dinner and dance. We owe a debt of gratitude to Anna, Marlene and several other great classmates for putting it together. Everyone was so nice and friendly. Betsy and I continue to enjoy our two grandsons, Nash 10 and Brock 8. We attend alot of their games, as they play four different sports year round. Now, going back almost 50 years, I'll try to give the short version. Sep 61 enrolled at Franklin and Marshall. Played frosh football and partied. Poor grades, lost scholarship that th Goog helped me obtain. Major regret and embarassment. Went to CW Post nights, then Suffolk community full time with Frank Hanley and Hal Gibber. Oct 65 joined USMC for 2 years. Good morning Viet Nam. Very sobering, frightful, sad experience.I still grieve the loss of classmates, schoolmates, and comrades. One of the worst mistakes our country ever made. Decided to stay in Calif after discharge. No regrets, or second thoughts whatever. We have had a good life here. We've been very fortunate. union activities, labor negotiations and pension board, as well as earthquake/disaster preparedness. Worked with the bravest and most talented people you could imagine. Loyal, generous, fun loving. July 94 retired as Captain. We lived in Alameda from '67-86, and have now lived in Danville over 23 yrs. Jun 75 graduated from UC Berkeley in History. Attended on the G.I. Bill, kind of like moonlighting. Obtained a Calif Teaching Credential and taught for three years after retiring. Had to give it up tho. Almost strangled several of the wise guys. It only takes one per class to screw it up. The bast part tho was coaching girls' softball those two years - jv and varsity. I also coached rec ball before and after that. We had a lot of fun. Jul 99 Became Safety Director of the Job Corps Center on Treasure Island, San Francisco. Students came there with a lot of baggage, but most appreciated what the staff did for them. Jan 01 Became Transportation Director for Goodwill Industries, San Fran. A lot of clients and workers with substance abuse and criminal histories. Very interesting experience. Many highly dedicated staff - good people. One other job since then. One day a week, for a year, at a golf course pro shop. Minimum wage, but unlimited golfing with my guests. Good gig and also nice people. ca.Jul '04 fully retired with not enough time to do all that I need to do and would like to do. Last few highlights; Sep 06 Rome, Venice, Cinqueterre 3wks. Sep 07 Berlin, Prague, Vienna, Salzburg, Italian Lakes and Alps, Swiss Alps 4 wks Sep 08 Umbria/Tuscany Farmhouse 5 wks We feel so fortunate that we were able to take these trips. The people, the art, architecture, history, food, all wonderful. I'm sure many of you could say the same. Just wish we had done it earlier and more often. Our daughter Meredith and niece Jennifer joined us for a week at the farmhouse. Then Doris and Mike Boyd stayed with us for ten days, as well. We've been guests of Doris and Mike several times over the years, both on Long Island and in So. Carolina. And they have stayed here with us in Danville. We had a memorable trip to Lake Tahoe and Yosemite when the kids were still kids, almost 25 years ago. So, who knows what lies ahead. Have to say it - these last eight years have been horrible in so amny ways. I'm hoping the next eight, ten, twenty will be much better. Vinnie
