Vincent's Story
Retired Colonel Vincent S. Wilcox, 59, of Fort Worth, Texas passed away Dec. 20, 2015 from liver failure, a complication of ulcerative colitis. He has been interred at the Air Force Academy.
Colonel Wilcox grew up in New Gloucester, Maine. He received a regular Air Force commission after graduation from the U.S. Air Force Academy in 1978. In 1979, he graduated from navigator training as the top flying graduate and Ira J. Husik Memorial Trophy winner. He served on active duty as an F-4 and RF-4 weapons systems officer both overseas and in the United States until May 1984. He joined the 301st Fighter Wing as an F-4 weapons systems officer upon leaving active duty. As a master navigator with 1,900 hours in various F-4 series aircraft, his flight time included sorties supporting Operation Urgent Fury. He held supervisory positions in the 301st Fighter Wing, including civil engineer squadron operations officer, mission support group deputy commander and Inspector General for the 301st Fighter Wing. In 2008 Colonel Wilcox retired from the position of vice commander of the Air Force Reserve Commandâs 301st Fighter Wing, Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base, Fort Worth, Texas. He was responsible for advising the commander of operational training effectiveness and provided counsel on management issues facing the wing comprised of approximately 1,500 personnel. Colonel Wilcox was a traditional reservist.
Colonel Wilcox was a principal systems engineer and principal operations analyst with Lockheed Martin Aeronautics Company in Fort Worth, Texas for more than 27 years. He worked on multiple fighter aircraft development programs including F-111, F-16, F-22, and F-35.
Colonel Wilcox was an honorable and dedicated man. He enjoyed motorcycle and bicycle riding, his cat Kiki, day hikes, Hawaii, eating out, being a caring uncle, and harvesting pumpkins at his brother's New Gloucester farm. He is survived by his siblings Adeline of Beltsville, Maryland., Richard of West Caldwell, New Jersey, and Carl of New Gloucester, Maine; nieces and nephews Skylar, Lucy, Eric, Roxanne, and Ottilie; and his dear friend, Amy Schrick and her children, AJ and Daniel, of Fort Worth.
