Vincent's Story

Anyone who's reading this vis a vis Tahanto Regional HS, I'm fairly certain I'd want to hear from you. vinniekmetz here I moved from Danbury, CT and lived in Boylston from Dec 1977-Mar1981 and they were the happiest 4 years of my life. Went back to nearby Brookfield, CT in 1981, graduated Brookfield HS in 1985 and after time at University of MD, and back here at WestCT State U, I left school and immersed myself in a golf career that ended two years ago when I quit work, went back to school and am efforting to be a working writer in some capacity. For the last 10 years I have owned a house in Danbury. Went to Boylston Elem in 5th and 6th grade (teachers were Ms. Ahearn and Ms. Tower, I can't remember the 5th grade teacher(s) maybe Silverstein(?) Mr. Horace Coco for gym, Mr. cochran was the principal, Mrs Page (prounounced French style P-ah-jay) was music and directed all of us in the 6th grade musical production of "It Takes a Wizard" based on the Wizard of Id comic. I only mention this because I was the lead (the Wizard) I think Steve Palermo was The King, John Henshaw was The Jester and I think Susan Dietl was the female lead..but my greatness is mostly what I remember. Locally, I lived in Timberbrook Condos, 225 Edgebrook Drive and was best friends with donnie Hartman, Tommy Dumont, Gareth McCain and Michael somebody (Lane?)(forgive me)as well as Marc Nordstrom. Of the non-Timberbrook crowd (of which there were many) I was great friends with John Henshaw, Vinny Dipalato, and a few others. I played baseball for Ken Jones Rhinos up at Morningdale Manor (on a gravelly infield) with Artie Flagg, Scott McCubrey, Todd Trapke and a few others. I also played at least one year for the Boylston Bisons Pop Warner team who had Buzzy Buzydlo (also the town's Police Chief I believe) as the coach. Socially, beyond the realm of male friends, Boylston was a wonderful place to launch puberty. My first girlfriend and kiss was Kristine Swanson in sixth grade. Happened right there in my Timberbrook garage after I beat her ass in Monopoly. Sometime later when I taunted her after beating her skinny ass in basketball, she kicked me square in the groin. The relationship didn't last too long after that though it was the first bitter casulaty of the Mars Venus wars for this soldier. After Kristine my monogamous tastes moved on to "gasp" older women. I used to play Spin ...Expand for more
the Bottle in the Timberbrook woods with Donnie Hartman's older sister, Lisa and her friend Debbie Benoit. I had a wild crush on Michelle Priestly for a time which was consummated in the mother of all make-out memories during "Free-bird" at the end of a party she hosted. There was another "older" girl, Maureen Pace, who also was the cat's meow - but I never could quite find the compass setting on the sextant. As these things will happen I ended up spending my last bit of Boylston romantic endeavors entangled with Michelle Priestly's friend, Colleen Burkhardt, who lived way the hell down past Sewall Pond and back near that sand quarry nearing the Worcster/Shrewsbury part of town. But Colleen made those long walks and bike rides were well worth it. This is not to say I didn't have purely platonic social activities with female peers. On top of a gazillion birthday and pool parties (I think Susan Dietl and Karin (Wellus?) co-hosted a memorable one in the summer of 79 or 80), swimming at Sewall Pond (the most Norman Rockwell ever) Christine Kalinowski had a string of Saturday night dance parties that were amazing. What fun was had! Four years ago (2004) and out of the almost (another story for another time) the clear blue I dropped in on Mr. and Mrs. Kalinowski - Chris or Cheryl weren't home, but I blew their minds after 23 years. Had a great time and I've been meaning to get back up that way. Before I must wrap this up, I've got to mention what a fun and vivid experience the times at Tahanto were...even though I spent only 7th and half of 8th grade in the actual building. In 7th grade, I believe I had Ms. Rohter for English, Ms. Manero for Math, Ms. Panagietou for French (maybe that was eighth) In 8th grade I had Ms. Powell for English, Mr Murphy for social Studies/History (what a card!) and this weird bow-tie wearing corpse for study hall...Mr Leavitt I believe. If anybody has seen the Nick Nolte movie "Teachers" and doesn't recognize the character of "Ditto" as Leavitt-incarnate, one of us is wrong. Well there might be a lot more and I really was taking a diversion from a poetry project to write this better story. If you want to put your toe in the water further, you can go with my name (as it appears in this note at the top) in the yahoo domain and please subject it with Tahanto or Boylston less I think it's a Viagra or porno ad. cheers and pax vk
