Virginia's Story
I graduated in 1960 from Plant. I worked at Maas Bros. as a part time elevator operator and part time model. until 1961. After meeting my future husband, Jackson Kane,( he used his d j name, DJ O'DAYas as a disc jockey.) at WLCY, we eloped. We had 5 children and I got 2 marvelous daughters from his former marriage. Jackson and I were married for 43 years before his death in 2004. We traveled the U.S. and lived from San Francisco, his birth place, to Miami and major radio markets in between. (There is a pic of us on the WKLO site ....you may remember him.)
Life has been good and some of my fondest memories are of my 3 years at Plant. I stay in touch with many grads, some even from Hillsborough. Naughty word back then! Life is good! NEWS FLASH.......sorry, married to a broadcaster for so many years....old habits are hard to break. I married a wonderful man Aug, 2,
2008. He is gorgeous and posseses all of those wonderful "just married" qualities. He makes me happy and my children adore him. Once again, LIFE IS
WONDERFUL!!!

If I'm going to work somewhere, I need to have chocolate, chocolate, and chocolate to be able to deal with the day-to-day..
My heros are the two wonderful husbands I have had. Jackson died too soon, but Ray entered my life and his endless support carries me through everything.
The most rewarding thing my children have ever said to me was, "You know, Mom you were right!" Amazing how smart they have become since they have become parents! Walking in one's parent's shoes can be very enlightening.
My current age is hmmm. When I was 12, I thought that people my age now would be dead. I was so completely wrong, Age is only a number. How you think and feel is what counts.
My first job was at Maas Bros., where I got paid min wage to model and operate an elevator. What I remember most about it is fun, fun, fun.
Today I am adding a note to my story..........my beloved husband, Ray, of 4 years died Thursday, November 8th.
Please treasure your loved ones. Life is all too short. I don't like adding negative news, but my only son died 3 weeks ago. I don't know how a parent endures this kind of pain. I'm still numb. He has sisters who love and miss him terribly.
