Virginia's Story
I'm married to an old classmate, Bob Cummins. We have four grown children, and 6 grandchildren. We have our own business in Tipton, Iowa, two of our children work with us. We go to Florida every winter for about 2 months, still work through internet. I do the accounting for the business. We have had three foreign exchange students, one through the AFS program, and two private exchanges. The younger brother of our first student through AFS was one of our private exchanges. They are both from Colombia. Have seen them both in recent years, they have come to the states, I haven't been to Colombia. The third was the second son of my foreign exchange student sister Ursula from Germany when we were seniors. We have been to Germany a few times to visit, and they have all been here a few times. We have stayed in touch since she lived with us in '61/62. My husband and I love to travel, and with having our son in the business to take over, we can get away. We moved from Mich. in 1971 and have lived in this small town since then. We started a machine shop here, and have 26 employees now, which keeps us busy. ton Georgia with his second wife. He has two step daughters, which is part of my grandchildren count. My second son is in Iowa City and works as a supervisor for Proctor and Gamble. He and his wife have a son and a daughter. They are 12 (going into the 7th grade) and 9 about to be a 3rd grader.(sp?) My third son is the one in business with us, and my youngest is our daughter, who has a degree in Anthropology and Amercan Indian studies. She also works with us, married recently, has a son 6 (about to enter 1st grade) and new daughter born last January. My husband and I golf, belong to bridge clubs, and spend much time with family. We are leaving for Table Rock Lake this Sat. for a week with the whole family for a family vacation. We started that a few years ago, and about every other year, plan a vacation we can all go on together. The kids all love it, and its a good time for catching up on each other. Bob's parents have both passed away, my dad dies of cancer in 1990, and my Mom is still living, and doing very well. She's 87 now, and in fact I went home to MI for the weekend and brought her back with me, so she could go on vacation to Branson with our family. She doesn't get to see them as often, its more difficult for her to get to Iowa now.
