Virginia's Story
Life
Hello everyone. It's been a long time since I left Missouri. I have been all over the place before settling in Central California (Modesto--home to American Graffitti)in 1989.
School
Well, let's see, I moved to the Kimberling City area in the summer of 1982, right before my freshman year. My step-dad's job took him to places all over the country. In the summer of 1985, I was given the choice of moving and going to a new school my senior year or moving out on my own and staying my senior year at RSHS...so I decided to stay. One thing led to another & without parental controls..I went hog-wild. Eventually I was dropped from school only 2 months before graduation. BOY I REALLY MUSTA BUMPED MY HEAD ON SOMETHING!!!
I did eventually get a GED in mid 1987 and did take some college courses. But I really really regret not finishing school and getting a diploma with my classmates. The only thing that I can say is that my struggles then and later in life made me a very strong person and helped me get through a lot in life that I may not have been able to had I not "bumped my head all those years ago."
College
Well, this won't take too long.... the closest I've ever come to college is taking courses online. Never seemed to be able to get around to actually going to college. I think my life has been hectic enough with just the day in and day out stuff .... adding college never really seemed to be in the cards for me. Looking back, yes, I do wish I'd stayed in school and graduated with everyone else... then gone to college and all that. My life never has fit in that 'box' though..... and I really believe that I have been stronger having to muster through without that magic little piece of paper with the golden seal on the corner. Life is a college ...Expand for more
to me and believe me, I've got a triple major in that proverbial 'school of hard knocks.'
Workplace
After leaving Missouri, I returned to North Dakota where I had lived before moving to Missouri in 1982. I then went to live and work in the Chicago area at a Zayre Department store. When I moved to California, I began working with emotionally disturbed adolescents in group homes. I worked my way up from a councelor to a day manager at one agency. After 7 years, I moved to another group home that focused on the probationary teens who were emotionally disturbed and was the assistant administrator. After 10+ years in the field and, at the time, being engaged and a 'sudden step mom' to 4 children ....I decided to work with adults who are developmentally disabled or delayed. I am a case coordinator for a supported employment program and have approximately 60 clients on my case load. I am very happy with my job and feel I am making a difference in my clients' lives.
WHAT"S GOING ON IN MY LIFE NOW--
Well, I have 3 dogs...a 15 year old doxie (that's Tailgate), a terrier/doxie/something else dog who sleeps with a tennis ball in his mouth while he is laying on his back on the bed, and a yorkie/taco bell dog who I bottle fed from 3 weeks old. She is 3 months now and is my little shadow with very sharp teeth.
Update:
8/10/2009
Well, Tailgate died almost a year ago-had her since she was 6 months old and she lived to the ripe old age of 16 (believe me if you ever smelt her breath you'd know what ripe means).
I split up with my fiance after 9 years together a few years ago and since then I've gone from frumpy to fabulous. I lost almost a eighty pounds and am blond. Finally, I get a second look...although it's lead to a couple of missteps here and there.
