Vivian's Story
If I hadn't made it to marching band by my senior year,Shadle would have been a waste for me. Going to all of the games and wrestling matches helped me see how I could be part of A CLASS OF 856. Where are you now?O M G!!! I now have a defibrillator in my chest! Update 5/23/09.My heart was trying very hard to stop. I've looked down my body as it shut off and saw nothing but black. This happened 5 times before I went to ER and 2 more times there. Guess I'll stick around. It's clearly not my time. I've lived several lives in this time, it seems to me. I left on a bus to LA the morning after we graduated. My first life after high school was as a very young nursing student engaged to be married when I graduated. Wearing makeup, doing my nails, modeling in a fashion show, attending a formal ball, and attending a sudent nurse conference where a speaker told us to take LSD as soon as we could. I was not prepared for the reality of nursing and went to work for the Post Office(high pay,not emotional, little responsibility) I broke my engagement, went back to girlfriend I'd loved since the 9th grade, fell into the hippie life. It was a bad time to be gay and working for the feds. So I met a man back from Nam in the Navy and eventually married him. That included more fun ...Expand for more
and irresponsibility than I'll get again. We got pregnant and left for Colorado( not wanting to raise a child in LA). 6 mo. after she was born I had to admit my husband was an alcholic who couldn't quit and came back to Spokane. I lived the straight and narrow life of a student nurse again w/a 9 mo. baby. For 15 yrs I was single/mother and RN. Then met the woman and my partner for life. Shari.Actually that has been a lot more fun but with responsiblity. 20 yrs later I'm finishing my career. Hospice nursing was 20 yrs of so far 31 years. It was my passion and I loved and lived every minute of my hospice years. I got a scholarship from my church to work for them as a volunteer until they could afford to pay me. My heart is full with the love I have to get through the rest.Shari is an RN but younger. At this time, I'm looking at retirement.MY 401K went where yours did. .I learned in retirement that I'm still going to need to get out on a schedule. Oh, and my art. I started weaving tiny beads into headbands a bracelets as a kid and went nuts in the 90s creating scenes from nature with my tiny beads and bigger looms. That's most of it! Please share your stories, too. Our class was impossibly huge but very special. I want to know what happened to all of us.
