Vivian's Story

I am married and have two children and 3 grandchildren, 24, 22, & 20. My grandson is a network engineer in Schaumburg and loves his job, while my son is a computer professional and works for a nationwide pizza distribution company He and his wife have a local ice cream business. My daughter works for a pharmaceutical company as a senior study manager. Her study in Copenhagen for a new antidepressant was completed and submitted to the FDA Sept. 2012 and accepted in two months (this usually takes a year). This drug is now called vortioxitine or the manufactured name Brintellix is considered a block buster SSRI because it does not have the negative side effects of other SSRIs & produced by Lundbeck. After working at several jobs in industry and in civil and mechanical engineering, I began my career at FermiLab in June of 1974. I worked on many experiments over the years when my career took a turn toward computers and engineering database support along with computer administration and OS support. I worked at Fermilab for over 34 years and retired in July of 2008. My hobbies include jewelry making, knitting, making slides shows, movie making and video editing. I enjoy reading so much, I got a Nook and now I can read, read, read to my heart's content without filling up my bookshelves. My husband and I are involved in pre-1840 reenactments, and I sew the authentic leather clothes we wear when we go to a National Rendezvous. There I compete in primitive archery matches with my Osage bow built by a very good friend from Michigan. I also do the bead work on my buckskin dresses. I am working on a buckskin Warrior's shirt for my husband in an authentic Apache style. (My husband is Lipan Apache.) I also got into some pottery making awhile back (a Mimbres style in the potsui'i method using a sgraffiti knife) but put it away when I got busy with other things. I'd like to take it back up again. latest operating systems like the new Windows 8 and Android tablets and software products,. I try to teach others how to keep their computers virus & trojan free & what to do if the unthinkable happens & how to recognize a problem. I plan on building another home computer for my husband and myself before XP disappears this spring. Then on the side, I am concentrating on turning all our vinyl records, cassette tapes, and VHS tapes into CDs and DVDs. What a job! There are way too many. So many things to do, so little time. My husband is a hunter and we have a place in WI where we go every year for deer hunting. We try to get some canoeing in and a little fishing too. There is a LOT of wild life to be seen. Turkey, bobcat, coyote, wolves, feral hog, and YES, there are BEARS. Big ones. They can be noisy or darn silent. Having a gun (a pistol) is a must out in the woods. One walked right into camp while we were asleep and took a bite out of one our plastic storage containers we had filled with lime. Needless to say, the bear didn't much like the lime. But they are out there. My husband has children in AZ where we also travel every year. He goes dove hunting and we go Jeeping up in the mountains too. We have seen old mining camps not mapped on unmarked trails. It's like traveling back in time. We go into some of the oldest Anasazi sites where we find chards of pottery and dwellings where people lived hundreds of years ago. Some of these places are not charted. Everything is left untouched by us as it is sacrilege to do so as well as illegal to remove anything from these ruins. But they are wonderful to see. The biggest excitement that happened this past year was the marriage of my daughter last Sept. 2013. She was a most beautiful bride. I think it was definitely worth waiting so many years to find the right man in her life. They are perfect for each other & my husband gave the bride away for the both of us & in her late father's name. That's all for now, Write and tell me about you and your life!!! Vivian
