Walt's Story

My life has been the best I could make it. Starting out after high school, I joined the Army to be with my first love. After she found happiness elsewhere (8 weeks later), I did everything I could to succeed in the Army. I was assigned to Ft. Campbell, KY. I was in a unit that had recently returned from Viet Nam. There was not much to do there except clean mud from the equipment. I volunteered for a job as the driver for the Division Support Commander. He was so pleased with my commitment to the job; he had my orders changed from Korea to Hawaii when 1400 people were sent overseas from Ft. Campbell. In Hawaii, I was assigned to a shop staffed by, 14 repairman, with 2 aircraft to repair. Every morning I would tell my squad leader I was going to "clean my weapon". He would mark me down as "performing other duties", and I would head to Sunset Beach. Body surfing the Bonsai Pipeline was fantastic. I watched more ...Expand for more
than 1300 sunsets, no two ever being the same. When the time came to head back to reality, I landed in Virginia, Ft. Eustis to be exact. I spent a lot of time exploring the East Coast. After 6 1/2 years of military service, I made a new home in Hatboro, PA. There I had several girl friends, a couple of jobs, and a year as a volunteer fire fighter. Then, at the age of 31, it was time to settle down. I got married and moved to Chalfont, PA. My wife and I raised 3 beautiful daughters. I coached their softball, and soccer teams, took them camping, fishing and drove a bus for their summer camp. Now that their grown, I still drive a school bus for the Central Bucks School District. I have a small auto repair shop where my four mechanics and I enjoy spending time together. My wife has a dry cleaning business that has been in her family for over 60 years. Together, we like to spend time in Atlantic City when we can.
