Walt's Story

Life What have I been doing for the past 20+ years? Good question, I am glad you asked. I have been living in the Sacramento region since graduation. I moved to the Woodland area in 84 and worked with my father in real estate and cattle ranching. I went to school at Solano Community College for a year where I met my wife in 86. I married a wonderful woman, Dawn Meidinger in 1988 and we attended American River College together for a year before she transferred to UC Davis to earn her bachelors degree in Animal Science. I went back to work with my fathers business until his death in 91. In 1993 our son Steven was born and soon after that we sold our ranch and moved to Elverta where we operate Gibson Ranch Park Equestrian Services for the County of Sacramento. I am sure my agricultural activities will come as quite a shock to many of you who remember my rather colorful rock n roll party guy past. Along with my wife's family we managed Gibson Ranch together for a few years. We soon realized that one of us would need to have a career outside of Gibson and I started work in the communications industry. I started out as network technician for a network integration company. I worked there for 7 years and the became a low voltage contractor. Somewhere in there our second child, Abigail was born. In 2000, she was born 3 pounds,3 ounces and stayed in the neo-natal intensive care unit for two months. Abbie is just fine today, she i...Expand for more
s a dynamo, and very cute I might add. We bought a small farm in Esparto in 2002 and are in the process of building all the fences and barns. I have recently changes jobs and went from contracting to working at UC Davis. My wife still manages Gibson Ranch and we are looking forward to the time when our contract is up and she can work a little closer to home. So that's it in a nutshell. I met a wonderful woman who brought me back to my cowboy roots and I settled down with our two wonderful children to a pretty great life. I stopped drinking long ago, not cold turkey or because of a DUI or anything, I just stopped. I still have most my hair, although my wife does point out the thin spots from time to time. I have added a few pounds, while my wife is the same size as the day we were married. Not much to tell really, I have coached pee-wee football, little league, and I am a 4-H leader. I have become an semi-ordained Pastor so I could preside at the wedding of my best friend this year and I do attend church regularly at Bayside of Woodland. I do want take the last few lines to publicly apologize for my behavior while attending EHS. Looking back at it, I was good friend to few, an out of control jock to some and a delinquent to others. Which ever group you fall into, I am sorry, I wish I would have behaved better. As a good friend of mine likes to say, I may have done what the say I did, but I am not who they say I am.
