In the autumn of 1968 I worked at a horticulture farm south of Sumner, WA and got paid by the hour by working as laborer in helping harvesting very young apple trees to be picked up, brought in, sorted, bundled, packed in shipping containers and loaded on a truck then travel back home to get some sleep and get up for another day of work. In about December 1968 I received a draft card in which I could be called up any day. I did not waste any time. Well I went to the US Navy Recruiter and went to the appointment for the physical and the answer was congratulations you passed and we will take you into the US navy. So in Jan-1969 I signed up in the 120 day delay program that was available for US Navy recruits. On May 28, 1969 I went to Seattle, WA for my final medical exam and rode a bus to Seattle/Tacoma (SEATAC) International Airport & en...Expand for more
ded up at the Naval Training Center in San Diego,California. When every one arrived; it was that everyone was dressed differently (some had hair grown to the shoulders, another was dressed like a bum, etc.).The next day was a busy day for us new recruit's (military hair cuts, received new uniforms, etc. And now known as company 381 and given orders for military life in barrack (a building to sleep, clean, maintain, inspection, extra duty, etc.) Went through boot camp for quite a few weeks. Passed boot camp and received orders for class A school for store keeping that would begin in about two weeks.During the two weeks I was on vacation I traveled to a few places in Southern California. I went to the class "A" school for store keeping and learned a lot and what work is required as a storekeeper & I passed the course and received orders for the USS Denebola AF-56 which was home ported in Norfolk, VA. I was assigned to the supply department as a Storekeeper in GSK(general store keeping). I was a Storekeeper on the USS Denebola AF-56 from 11/1969 to 3/1973 and the area I had worked was in the same area as the post office. It was interesting. When I got out in March 1973 I was an SK2. I went to Clover Park Vocational School and went to school to become an office machine repairman and started work in July 1975 for a company that sold office machines, office furniture, phone systems. In November 1993 the company closed up. But I took the option to help form a corporation (the owner and myself) in November 1993 to continue sales, service, supplies on office machines/time clocks. In December of 2003 the owner retired & I became owner and I took on a large responsibility. In June 7th 2010 I moved my business into my home that I have owned since April 1976. I work out of my home and do not have to commute to work. 7/15/2011 10:54 PM PDT.
