Walt's Story

Wow....who'd have thought? First off, I've never liked the name Walter and all but refused to answer to it. Walt, it did and does work just fine. We're actually in CT now, RI got too expensive for us. My home, through adolescence was sold to a private investor and it is now for sale for over $2MM. My understanding is there is but one of the families on Pleasant St in Wickford when I resided there that still resides there. The rest? Taxed out. Whatever happened to Mrs Pinet????? I did my undergraduate work in Ohio, came back to RI and worked for the state as a software developer. Went to DC to work for an 8A firm and lived in Reston, VA. Was Systems Programming Mgr at a firm in Wilmington, De until just before they went under. Oh, did I mention I got the nickname of corporation killer? Many of the companies I worked for went under. I left there and worked for Grossman's as Systems Programmer, Communications and backup MVS SysProg. Are they even still around? I don't believe so. Left there to work for Cullinet Software, they are no longer around either. We bought my Great Aunt's home she bought in 1930's where I worked for Legent Software in Westboro, Ma. They are gone as well. Moved back to Northern VA and worked for earned private, IFR, Commerical ASEL/ AMEL. The rest is on LinkedIn. We moved to MA where I worked for EMC, Pelago Networks, CA Technologies, Monster.com, moved to CT and retired. Yahoo!!! It's been 47 years since NK. Yeah, I know you knew that. Mary Ryan...where is she at? She had Mr Gardner for French, I had him for German and we'd exchange notes to each other in a book that never seemed to leave the chair we shared. I understand Ryan's market is gone now. If I knew then what I know now, I would have done much better in HS and been more lucky. Oh, I did get an MEd and taught briefly. Turns out designing software is way more lucrative than teaching engineering and technology. We moved from Cranston to WIckford in 60 or 61, I've forgotten but I was in 4th grade in Perry School, for those tha...Expand for more
t remember that. For some of you, while we weren't in K-12 together, 4-12 isn't that much of a difference. Yet it was. I mentioned that because after NK graduation I, for the most part, did not stick around. I often wondered had I stuck around would I feel more plugged into the folks I went to school with? If we had all be in class from K-12 would that have made a difference? I recall what was likely the pivotal line from Big, the movie with Tom Hanks and Elizabeth Perkins and her line was to the effect of "I was 18 before and don't want to relive that period", or words to that effect. I wasn't particularly happy in HS, there really wasn't that much holding me there and, come 18, time to book. Why did I say that? Partly because I envy those that were tight with others and pretty much stayed tight after high school and whatever happened next, military or college, spouses, children etc. Oh, interesting tidbit, one month before college graduation I was reclassified 1-A as I was #7 in the draft. I have no desire for a do-over of that either. But ya know what's really weird? In the list of people I actually do remember vividly, 2 are on here. One I dated, I don't believe I can say steadily, through high school (from 10 -12) but kinda sorta I believe we stopped going out right after I showed up for a date only to find out she had just left on a date with someone else. Note to NK, Harsh, that was WAY harsh. It's kind of funny now, not so much then. I should have taken your sister out but there was this whole WTF thing going on in my head at the time. I wonder, now I've given these people money, if I can change my name. I hope everybody is well, happy, and can look back and smile. But more importantly, look forward and smile! For those interested, my non-CM.com email is walt_corey AT yahoo DOT com. OK, it's now 3 yrs later and I just read this and chuckled. I wouldn't change a sentence! I hope others have read it besides me. And to NKC - yep, still WAY Harsh! ;-) To all my NK classmates, Live Long and Prosper!
