July 2010 - We now have TWO granddaughters: Arianna was 2 in Jan-2010. Emma was born in May this year. Work Life Have been with the US Office of Personnel Management since July 2009. The office is inside a former limestone mine about 50 miles north of Pittsburgh. Was laid off with no notice in April at Carnegie Mellon University after 7-1/2 years. They wanted to restructure the Procurement Department and four of us got 'axed' so they could do so. Now, have a 108 mile daily commute, but I am thankful to be employed again. Looking for a job at age 58 is tough! I joined the Air Force a month after graduation in 1972 to fulfill service obligation & to resolve vulnerability based on draft 'lottery number'. AF tried to make me a linguist then a fire fighter for almost 2 years before trying me out as a contracts specialist, which I then spent 24 years doing. Served total of 26 years and one month, retiring at Buckley Air National Guard (now Air Force) Base in July 1998. Moved to Chicago to work for General Services Administration, a Federal agency, for three years. Worked eight years for Carnegie Mellon University, still in the procurement/contracts business, until they decided to replace most of the department. No children of my own, but I mentored many other parents' kids along life's way.
