Walter's Story
Well, in the years following High School I attended Wharton County Jr. College. I did not get a degree but transferred to Southwest State where I managed to get an impressive 0.23 grade point average. I found refuge back at WCJC and managed to bring my GPA back up to a 3.0. I was then accepted into Sam Houston State University where I would graduate 2 years later with a B.S. in Agricultural Business. After school I landed a job with Trinity Testing and Inspection at their Point Comfort location (Formosa Plastics) as the Inspection Superintendent of Quality Control. I was not happy in this line of work though it was very interesting, I soon took a position closer to home as a supervisor for Quality Turf Farms in Lane City, Texas. I worked that job for two years at which time we grew grass for the Masters in Augusta, Georgia and several Regional Golf courses. I left that job to work for the State. s all on the outside (I was a State Employee). I got tired of all the games and decided to return to the production side of agriculture. I moved up to North Texas in 1996 to work for The Turf Farms of Crenshaw and Douget. (Ben Crenshaw was co-owner) We established and harvested grass for the St. Louis Rams Practice Facility. After a brief 1 year tour I changed jobs and went to work for The City of Arlington Parks and Recreation Department as a Parks Landscape Supervisor. I spent the next 6 years with that department. I moved to the private sector with a company called VMC Landscpes and got laid of 88 days into my 90 day probatioary period. I found another job in Houston with Fielders Choice Inc. We are responsible for building Sam Houston State University's Baseball Complex, Crosby Football Stadium, Montgomery Football Stadium, assisting the Houston Astros in field prep. Like I said in my profile I am now Superintendent for the City of Houston taking care of Hermann Park-Houston's Premiere Park.
