Walton's Story
Life
Just a quick and dirty for Falls Church High and University School classmates. I lived at Lake Barcroft in Fairfax VA from age 13 to 16 and went to FCHS. I would have been graduated in 1960, but transferred to University School in Bloomington Indiana for my senior year. My father was in the Foreign Service and I decided to stay in the USA for my last year of high school. My grandfather was a professor at Indiana University in Bloomington.
I decided to attend IU for many reasons, including my private apartment in my grandparents home, and my cabin in the woods, used for poker and romance.
I spent my senior year abroad at the University of Durham in England and later went to both Yale and Harvard for grad school, assembling three master's degrees en route.
I was hired as what is now called a "Presidential Manage...Expand for more
ment Intern" with the Federal government and worked a half dozen years at the Office of Management and Budget and another thirty years at the Department of Health and Human Services, doing policy analysis and regulatory policy in the Office of the Secretary. I'm now a retired Fed, but still write and consult.
For over 25 years I have as a private entrepreneur written "CHECKBOOK's Guide to Health Plans for Federal Employees" with over a half million paperback sales and millions of Internet subscriptions.
I also consult on health insurance and Federal regulation, most recently on Medicare reform.
I've got two great eurasian daughters, an ex-wife, and a current wife. After some 25 years living in DC, I now live again in the VA suburbs, on five acres of field and forest near Clifton. I welcome contact from old friends.
